The fan training idea is good, but I just wonder if it slows down fruiting, bearing in mind the growing season is short in the UK.
I think it could work in warmer climates better than here.

Yes I agree Pete ,I'm also thinking the side shoots are very flimsy to tie in but I've got to give it a go ..I can't help myself:rolleyespink::biggrin:

Latah might be a good one for that as its supposed to be a lax bush and early too.

Planted my tomatoes into large container yesterday and they grew a couple of inches in all directions overnight. How do they know??

Maybe it's like when you take off a pair of shoes that are too tight!

Mine are all looking very happy, turning a lovely dark green and opening their first flowers.

I took 2 glass panes out from the greenhouse sidewall, it was already getting too hot inside. Put wire fencing piece there. Tomatoes flowering in the greenhouse and outside.

I put mine in the g/house border a few days ago and they're off to a good start.
                      3 Rose de Berne (my all-time fave), 3 x Shirley and 2 x Rosella
French marigolds and basil planted at the front.
I also planted 4 Rose de Berne outside as they performed very well outside last year despite the poor summer.
My cucumber mini-munch went into its final pot too and it's already got into the trellis.

I got mine planted into the wee growhouse a few days ago. Not had much time to look at them since then, but the slugs are already having a go. Sigh....
I've got one which will need to go outside, but it needs potted on, or planted. It's been getting hardened off for a while, so I'll do something with it in the neext few days hopefully.

One thing I do @fairygirl is to snip off any part of a leaf that touches the soil. Not the whole leaf, just any bit that touches the soil. It sometimes has to be repeated as the leaves grow.
I suspect that's the route the slugs/snails take.
I've been doing that for the past 3-4 years and have had very little damage since.

The problem is - nothing's touching the soil @Pete8 ! Just how it is, but the slugs are even worse here this year than normal. I don't usually get too much of a problem with the toms. It's how it is with gardening eh?
I meant to say - your toms etc are looking very good. Mine are much smaller than that, but I think it's because, ironically, it's been such a mild winter and my house hasn't been as warm as normal because the heating's not been on as much, so the plants didn't grow on as quickly in the first month or so as they usually would. They'll come on in the next few weeks though.
                            Swings and roundabouts

Slugs and snails are eating my tagetes companions rather than the tomatoes. I've also got a few comfrey cuttings growing amongst them by accident, I chop up comfrey leaves and stems and bury prior to planting. It propagates by itself and a few are now poking above the soil, the molluscs prefer them so for the time being I'm leaving every thing as is.
