Tomato Growing Competition 2012

None of the early flowers have done anything here too - but getting some life now so there is still hope !

 

My contenders so far, "Big Boy" and my double fruiter "Delicious"

 

Don't forget to attach slings to the stems to support the weight as they get big.

My Giant Belgium tomato now has a fruit set from a megabloom, another ugly tom;

 

Good point about the slings Scrungee, I already have the "Big Boy" supported (not shown in photo) and cross wires in place for any other potential monster tomatoes..... if only!

Ok, so after months of planning, preparation and build up, the event the whole country has been waiting for has finally arrived.
Ladies and gentlemen (and undecided), I am deeply honoured to perform the official opening of the 2012 GC tomato growing competition!

(Not going too over the top here am I?)

So, at just under 7oz (or 200g for foreign types) the bar has been set.
Probably not a medal winner I know, but it's a start.
Now the competition begins in earnest, good luck and may the best fruit win!

I don't know why I'm viewing this thred. It's gonna give me NIGHTMARES!!

 

Well, looking to next year, I've attempted to cross a Delicious with a Big Boy, if successful I'll call it a "Del Boy F1"

No sign of mine ripening - phew! Need them to get bigger! :(

 

That made me wonder if anybody's making the the mistake of 'feeding' potential giant toms with the likes of Tomorite, etc. as that will accelerate ripening and reduce the potential size of your tomatoes.

P.S. I've noticed that there doesn't appear to be any official end date to this competition.
