Thanks for the tip Jenny - just had a look about on their site, and two of their weather stations are within kicking distance of my house :)

If you could see into my living room right now, and look very carefully, you would see me and me - me, beside myself.

I have a casualty to report - one of the tomato plants decided to flop over at the top, and in doing so took its neighbour with it and snapped the stem of its neighbour! So, the wee dwarf 'standby' tom is now in residence in the pot of the snapped one, and hopefully we'll have no more casualties.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear FC,
that's a right bummer. :thud: :sick0026: How about stringing them up ,under their armpits and suspending them from the GH roof? You can't say I'm not a good sport, can you? We've both still got the gloves on. Time to get mean and nasty later.
I will say a little prayer,
        Jenny

Thanks Jenny - not sure I could get mean and nasty with you :)

I don't have anywhere at the top of the polytunnel to tie to, apart from the central pole - the bulk of my trouble is that I still have my shelving full of seedlings waiting to go out into the garden, and I can't get them out as I am waiting for our landlords to install new fencing. If I could get more space, I could move the toms about a bit, and get them tied to bigger canes.

Well...I planted my toms out too a few days ago when the weather was still very warm, so at least they had time to settle before its cooled down again..

I have two large growbags with 4 plants in each secured against the shed and then another 6 in pots attached to an arrangement of canes which is in turn secured to the fence behind it making the whole thing solid as a rock..:snork:

14 plants in total; which is made up of 7 varieties including; Alicante, Red Pear, Roma, Ildi, Orange Berry and a couple of others

All have settled well and have produced healthy new growth since planting out, so its happy days so far...:dancy:

I didn't think it was worthwhile, and as I am running really short of pots I decided it best to quickly transplant the small one that was the runt of the litter into the bigger pot - hopefully it will be producing fruit when the others have finished?

Bilbo - your's look great (far more organised than mine); I think I am going to have to teach myself some frameworking with canes before next year.

Just a thought: I wonder if there is enough space "behind" the canes up the fence? I've never grown Toms against a wall, so maybe it will be fine, but mine grow "quite a bit" in a circle around their cane.

Hi Kristen :) , I've grown them up against the shed for the last 3 years and they do really well as its sheltered from too much wind and its also a sunny spot for the majority of the day, I also have no worries about the weight of the plants pulling the canes over as they're wired to the shed.

The only thing I have to do is remove excess leaves that grow at the back towards the shed so they don't get overcowded.

I've had no problems at all in the last 3 years and have had brilliant harvests, so fingers crossed this will continue this year...:dancy::dbgrtmb:

                  Hi all,

My 1st time with Cordon tomatoes - Ailsa Craig - and I'm slightly confused.

I've pinched out the side shoots, am I supposed to leave all the rest of the branches?
