Hi Freddy, I'm growing several varieties outdoors and Ildi is one of them, all my plants are doing well (growth wise) including Ildi and most have quite a lot of flowers on them; with the summer weather we're having only time will tell if they amount to anything....:dunno:

So far it's been the worst season EVER. Just home after a three week holiday and would normally expect outdoor toms to be marble sized but green and polytunnel toms to be just about to start to turn from green and a good size. There's no fruit at all on the outdoor toms and very little on the ones in the tunnel.
I'll not comment on peas, french beans, squash and strawberries as this is a tomato thread!!

          Hi Dave.

I reckon it could be a dead loss this year, for outdoor toms:cry3:

I seem to have plenty of green toms on my indoor and out door ones but it's anybodys guess whether they'll ripen:frown:

I think you may be right Freddy. In 30+ years of growing outdoor toms I've never seen them so behind in July. Apparently tt rained every day of the three weeks we away and there was next to no sun too. I had to leave the doors on the tunnel open as a blink of sun turns it into an oven but the lack of sun resulted in it being too cool!

          Hiya Dave.

As gardeners, we would normally welcome the rain, but it's been so cold. I remember my old fella (God rest his soul) would mention from time to time, that what was needed was some "warn rain", now I know what he meant! Still, next year will be better, yes? I'm a relative newcomer to this gardening lark, but I've learned that one needs to try to be philosophical. Not easy!

              Been on my hols :)

Had a few varieties starting to ripen in the greenhouse, Sungold, New Girl, Siberian and Gardeners Delight. The outdoor plants have full sized fruit and I've had a couple of reasonable ripe fruit off them, but I've had to throw several fruit away due to them going mouldy.

Are you saying that you've had fruit from your outdoor ones? If so, you've done well there! You'll have to let us in on your secret:WINK1::biggrin:

Yes a good break thanks Freddy, didn't escape the rain but it wasn't a complete wash out where we were.

The outdoor ones are a bit of a cheat, they are my really early ones (sown in January) I've been growing in the greenhouse in big pots. As I was going away I decided to plant them outdoors so they didn't dry out. They can take their chances outside now, I've stopped them (nipped out the tops) as they are really tall with about 4 trusses already.

:dancy::dancy::dancy: I have two in the window box that are orange
Quite a good size as well. Tempted to pick them and bring'em in on to the windowsill.
I will try and take a piccie of them in the morning. Maybe a bit awkward - have visions of me landing upside down in the border in front of them.......
