Alicante drives me mad with growing shoots at the end of the truss , plus I bought some cherry toms and they are doing the same thing why do the breeders let this happen when choosing a variety to sell & grow

All is not lost, the hot weather seemed to stop the blight spreading, normally it drops the plants in a couple of days.

Have removed the affected foliage & sprayed again. Keep em crossed.

 

Is that everything blighted, including your Big Zigs competition tomatoes?)

 

Plum tomatoes are ok, despite the spuds going down next to them, have sprayed again but not holding out much hope of a bumper crop.

The 2 suviving Big Zogs are still in pots on the window sill, got a few small berries on them.

 

Clarification needed here please.
Are you growing Big Zigs or Big Zogs?

 

I've stripped a load of leaves off my plants today, to let any sun we get through. I'm growing Sungold for the first time and Gardeners Delight. Sungold are cropping well, G. Delight are pathetic. The odd thing is both types have grown trusses on one side of the plants only.

 

Here's my outdoor toms, they're doing ok now, lots of flowers and young fruit coming through...




Just look at the amount of flowers on this one bunch!!

 

What are those in the last Pic? They look quite a bit like Ildi...

Just a quick question - because my greenhouse has a concrete floor (there was nowhere else to put it), I've always grown my toms in growbags and, although I know some will shudder in horror, I've always put 3 plants per bag and been pleased with the results.

This year, because of a re-arrangement, I've been able to put in an extra bag and have grown Gardener's Delight in one bag, Shirley in another and Alicante in the third. At the first sign of blight I sprayed the plants and it certainly seemed to help, except with the Alicante - not only are these 3 plants much, much smaller than they usually grow but they've been decimated whilst the others have weathered the storm much better.

I'm wondering therefore, could this be because ....

Alicante are less disease resistant?
Because of the size of the plants and lack of vigour (even before the blight) could it be anything to do with the growbag itself?
The only other thing I can think of, is that they're growing next to some pepper plants - although I'm assuming this wouldn't have any detrimental effect?

Any suggestions?
