Right, despite the rain (and by god was it heavy at times), I decided to crack on and get the tomatoes out of the polytunnel into the open air:

    IMAG0001 (2).jpg
This is one that has been outside for a few weeks now - it was one of the busted ones that folded over on itself. Although the right angled bit of the stem doesn't look great, it must be OK as the foliage is all quite new. I toyed with the idea of straightening the stem and tying it up, but the foliage would be upside down - best left then - - I've tied it to the fence for support, so we'll see what comes of it.

    IMAG0016.jpg
The middle of this bunch (complete with blossoms), was actually the top of another plant that snapped, and has come back to life - I re-potted it into this pot today from a smaller pot, so again its a case of fingers crossed.

    IMAG0017.jpg
My best fruiter, and even at that not many - just hope they ripen.

    IMAG0018.jpg
Now, these have me wondering - the top half of the fruits are a really dark green - is this a sign of anything?

    IMAG0019.jpg
This one is on its last knockings I think (I chucked two out that were worse today), but I think it deserves a last chance?

    IMAG0020.jpg

And here are the troops all together (with the exception of three wee tiddlers in the polytunnel (next post)

On the left, hiding among my pepper plants are the three tomato plants that started out life as side shoots.

I think next year, I will definitely grow them outside against the fence as its sunny and gives me somewhere to lash them to, whilst getting the air about their gills.

Thanks Zigs - I don't think I am going to see much fruit now, as its so late, but I have nothing at all to lose.

We're in the same boat, only had 4 ripen so far this year.

Maybe you could overwinter a few plants, give you a head start on next year.

How warm would they need to be kept?

The'll stop growing at below 10c but will be ok if the frost is kept off them, trouble is the light levels over winter. The one I kept from last year got a bit leggy, but I cut it back a bit.

Its now my biggest plant (Still not many tomatoes on it though:biggrin:)

            I'll take a pic tomorrow.

The blowaway plants have finally got going, but nothing is close to being ready. Hopefully we will get a bit more sun this week which will move things on a bit.

My leanto is pretty crowded now and has a reasonable number of tomatoes. Like you, I must have only picked 4 or 5 ripe ones so far.

My plants in my greenhouse. Have one moneymaker, two gardeners delight and two ferline.

The fruits are starting to come thick and fast now. Although my moneymaker and gardeners delight seem to be slower to ripen.

I've found that canes didn't really support the fruit as well as I thought they would so go my other half to fashion up some bolts and attached some rings to them to I could support my vines in as many places as I needed. Which you can see in the photo below.

Two of my Moneymakers seem to be the biggest tomatoes I've ever grown.

Not really sure what to do about this pair though....

I usually grow a few outside on a south facing wall. After last years total failure and the nasty June weather we had in the Vale this year, I have moved nine plants into the conservatory and they are loving it compared to the few that are still outside.
Gardeners delight and yellow sunny gold.
I have just pinched out the tops today at more then 6 foot tall.
plenty green fruit but no red as yet but I have faith.

Interesting. With having moved several of my plants into the conservatory and thinking that natural pollination may be a problem and I in the habit of drumming the support canes with my fingers every time I pass them. So far I reckon its about 100% successful.

                      Hiya Robert.

Yes, for probably most folks, this works fine. It's just that in the past, I've suffered from lack of pollination, so it's something that I do, that works for me. No doubt, I could just give them a tap as I pass by, and all would be well:blue thumb:
