I think Summer only started in August so we could have another 2 months of warmth and sun. :yay: Just what toms need plus a bit of flowerfood or tom food (high pottasium),
    think positive,all will be well,
    Jenny

Hi Jenny & Loli, thanks for the welcome and the encouragement!

I'm in Cottingham, near Southwood Farm shop. We only have a smallish garden at the rear so not much room for edibles and flowers...has to be one or the other to some extent. With us not being there long (moved in at the end of last summer) I have concentrated this Spring and Summer trying to get things established ion them that will make the garden look and smell nice in future years (Jasmine, Passiaflora, Nigella, Dicentra, Lavender, Lillies, Clematis, Acidanthera, Gladioli etc etc). This has taken quite a while due to the fact that we have concrete 4" down under the whole of our garden (it all used to be a big garage) so I have needed to salvage and treat wood and then build a bed/border first before I can plant anything! So edible-wise I've only had time to plant 3 blueberry bushes in pots and grow some chillies and toms in a border and pots this year.
I have built 6 small growing beds for our (even smaller!) front garden so I'm looking to get a load of topsoil this autumn and then next year I'm hoping to expand a bit on my first-year of food-growing and try cucumbers, salad leaves, beetroot, kohl rabi, aubergines, courgettes etc. Will only have room for a couple of each but at least it will keep me off the streets! And whatever happens harvest-wise it's got to be more interested than the gravelled/concreted and totally unused fronts that we and most of our neighbours on the green currently have!
Best wishes to you all, off to harvest a few chillies for tea. :)

That's great news Jack. I find the very first tomatoes that ripen on each plant are a bit bland, I think it's because the early fruit have spent so long hanging around waiting to ripen they are a bit past it. After that they get a lot nicer.

I agree with that John, I find them slightly mushy as well. :)

Mine have sprang into life since being evicted, and one plant in particular has a couple of nice trusses going, with tomatoes expanding in size almost by the day :)

The ones I have eaten tasted good too, despite being moneymakers.

I did that shortly afterwards, but I deliberately didn't spray the plant that had the dodgy looking tomato on and guess what? - there's still no sign of blight on it four days later.

I was so pessimistic about my chances of tomato success I didn't buy any feed and of course now none of the shops local to me have it. Not driving and gardening, sometimes a hindrance! Shall have to persuade my fella to help me out.

Swap some off a neighbour for a "cup of sugar"? !!

You won't need much for one feed, and that will give you time to get some for the next feed.
