I find that some of my Maskotkas split a bit when they get watered, having got rather thirsty. I think that those are slightly sweeter, but maybe I'm imagining it?

Jack, shame I chucked my July issue away. I have googled plenty of photos on the web claiming the black stem thing is blight. And it could be blight in a form I've not met before. Normally it starts in the leaves and you get tell-tale white mould underneath the leaf in circle around the black marks. Also blight is very destructive, usually wiping out the plant in 48 hours, mine survived 3 weeks and would probably have carried on but I didn't want to risk whatever it was getting into the greenhouse.

Over the last week or so, I have noticed that fewer toms are ripening on a daily basis. Some of the mature leaves are going dryer and curling up at the edges and I feel they are getting into their "troisieme age" = old age:gaah:. Is it time to 1) remove all flower stems 2) take lots of leaves off 3) stop or reduce feeding "treats"?. Will this help the plants to concentrate on ripening as many as possible?
All new territory for me and my Maskotkas and we need a bit of :help: and a :grphg: as we feel the end is not too faraway :cry3:
              Jenny and my Polish chaps,

Im fighting a loosing battle with mould attacking the toms in the blowaway & nothing ripening - Im thinking that I should cut my losses, harvest the green fruit for chutney & move some more of the pepper plants into their places since they seem to suffer less from the damp & dont seem to mind the lack of sun so much. Ho Hum.

My Gardeners Delight have suddenly decided to get underway, loads of fruit and some are ripening, but whether they'll all ripen before the little bit of sun we get completely disappears, I'll have to wait and see. :)

Last year was terrible for me with grey mould. I planted too many too close. If you can remove the lower leaves Nick, and keep ventilators open as much as possible. It's high humidity levels that are the problem. I'm keeping my vents open at night and being careful with watering, don't splash the leaves. Even so I've got some slight problems. I remove any leaves that have mould on them asap, it spreads very quickly.

Wide open John? I have always left mine ajar in the Summer, but maybe I should leave them fully open?

Well I've only got one manual vent, I leave that wide open, the other vent in the roof is automatic. I have been leaving the door ajar too - night temps are just above 10 deg C so any lower and it starts getting a question of which is worse, the cold or humidity?
