Today I managed to eat one of the Shirleys, quite tasty with a bit of bite
Only the Money maker to make a show yet, still very green, and up here
the nights and the cold are drawing in, so not much of a crop at all really

Still I now know what I will grow next year (worth the effort) and what not
That is if there is a next year,

Thinking of just finding a gardener who wishes to sell a couple of pounds of real
tomatoes during the season (up at the allotments possibly)

Then convert the greenhouse to a sun lounge, and make the veg patch a nice lawn

What sort of night time temperatures are you getting right now Jack? Down here it's been 10 to 12 deg C over the last few nights.

The greenhouse is droping to 11c from about 03:00 to 05:30, during the day it sits at 17c with the vents open and the door

Maybe it's the day time temps that help too, it's still getting up to 25 deg C in my greenhouse during the day with vents and door open.

Yes it is sometimes Jack, I sometimes feel the same and like your sentiment about converting the greenhouse into a sun lounge. All this effort for so little reward, but there are hidden benefits like the exercise and feeling of being at one with nature. Plus spending money on seeds, compost and fertilizer means you have less to spend on bad things like alcohol ... hmmm

Some friends gave me a tomato planter for my birthday - started it off and the tomatoes are growing OK, but I've been impatiently waiting for them to turn red. One of the friends came round to check them out for me - took the label out and reminded me that I was growing yellow varieties.

Thanks for the reminder, exercise and fresh air was the main aim when I retired

My outdoor toms are looking very very healthy, no marks or the like on them, just need them to change colour from green , one or too are, I have a few Ildi changing and some Red Pear too.

I have removed a lot of leaves to let as much light as possible at the fruits...:)

The first of my outdoor Ferline have just ripened. Haven't tried one yet. They are a good size.

I got an email today saying "Examination of your samples suggests that your tomatoes have been affected by tomato blight, which is caused by the fungus Phytophthora infestans."

All my outdoor plants apart from Ferline were badly affected in the end so I pulled them up. The Ferline look reasonable, showing some signs of blackening stems (Blight!?) but all the top growth is nice and green and I'm getting fruit ripening on them now.

I think worth replying and telling them that it was not a sudden death (and others have experienced the same) because that must surely either be a new thing, or something that the weather etc this year somehow made it less dramatic.

Up-side, if there is one I suppose, is that it isn't some new-fangled disease.

You'll have to doff your cap at the, now gloating, patronising woman on the front desk next time you visit though :(
