A friend grew them last year and I always found a reason to wander up her garden path to "see what's agrowin" ' but it was also to pinch a couple of Maskotka toms [IMG] -so many that I don't think she noticed!! They were very tasty,

I've been reading about the OP 'Sungold' varities (Sungold Select I & II, and Big Sungold Select I & II) and would be interestered in your results + how seeds saved from them perform (as I also read of them still being genetically unstable).

Yes, I have also read about the stability issues with OP Sungold.
Select II seems to get generally good reviews - despite throwing out the occasional red instead of yellow tomato. Proof will - as they say - be in the eating and how they perform from saved seeds.

        I'll keep you posted.

Hoooooray !!!! The sun has got his hat on and the little Polish Maskotkas think theyv'e gone to heaven. They thank Kristen for recommending the whitecard back drop:ThankYou: and if I catch one starting to lean forward :nonofinger: , I simply turn it 180 degrees so that it has twice the effort needed to be with the others. It's called "character building" innit?

Whilst assembling my new 'greenhouse size' growlight box I noticed just how much lighter it looked before I'd got the top/front/lights on. Made me wonder if a E-W orientated greenhouse could be more efficient with Mylar, rather than glass on the north elevation.

But getting back to tomatoes, a couple of years ago I ordered some 'Balconi' toms from T&M using a £5 voucher, and 2 overlapping multisaves that I got so many seeds I didn't bother sowing them until last year, and despite being variously described as F1 I saved a load of them, both red and yellow fruited varities.

And yes I know that seed saved from F1's does not all come true, but all non-F1's/'heirlooms' were once hybrids, and some variety F2's are better than others. But from how the plants from my saved seeds look like, every single one of them appears to have inherited the 'dwarf' gene:

Anybody else tried saving/growing seeds from this variety|?

That's a load of happy looking seedlings right there scrungee,
Am new here on the forum but likening what am seeing,
Growing moneymakers gardeners delights and a few cherry tomatoes ( tumbling toms)

All got started under energy efficient bulbs back in feb, there now in the heated greenhouse with the first fruits showing, it's my first gg grow so started a bit early, but there doing great,

I'm going to have far too many of these F2 plants grown from those saved sseds for my own use, so if they turn out reasonably true to the proper Balconi F1 hybrids I thought about selling a few, but didn't know what to call them. Mrs Scrungee suggested Baloni, but somehow I don't think that's going to be appealing.

Tigerella tomatoes are cordon toms (AKA vine or indeterminate).

I potted on my tomatoes last week.
The Tumbling Toms and Totem have both developed their first truss already.umbling Toms are 8" above compost and the Totems 6".
Is it too early and will the plants struggle to develop as well as support the truss?

Is that your 2011 tomato plant?

Just spotted the first flowers on my early sown Red Alerts.
