Been sowing today:) Just a few of each of Red Alert, Super Marmande and Ferline. I wanted to wait a bit longer, but was unable to. You know how it is:dancy::snork:

What? How have you managed to hold it back for so long?

I brought it indoors just before that really cold snap but he's been back outside for about 6 weeks now, minor frost damage to the edge of a few leaves but otherwise starting to put on new growth & more flowers now. Think he got toughened up by neglect more than design.

I still don't understand. If it had a full season last year, it would have been maybe 4ft tall? Did you cut it back or something?

That is quite early gcc, Tumbling Toms are quite a small plant anyway and the fruit are cherry sized so they will be OK. Sorry I've never grown Totem before, but assuming you are putting both varieties into an unheated greenhouse then there is plenty of time for them to develop prior to planting out (mid May for you perhaps?)

Transferred a couple of my taller tomatoes to potato planters. Trimmed off the lower 3 or 4 branches and planted them on their side - which I haven't tried before in containers.

ref: my piccie on 111 of last Tuesday. You told me earlier that "they would need to be potted on into 5" pots after a couple of weeks". How will I know when they are getting too big for their current pots please?

Jenny, if you look underneath the pot and can see a mass of white roots through the drainage holes then it's time to pot on. If you can only see a few roots then leave it a bit longer.
