When I grew them they were much more pink than in illustrations, and I don't find pink tomatoes appetising so didn't grow again.

I found garden pearl very prolific and a normal red. I wonder if it's soil difference?

167 paper tube pots and 12 varieties of seedlings pricked out. Deserve my glass of wine : )

What seed compost are you using @Scrungee ? Yours look much stronger and healthier than mine. I'm using Westland Seed trays Compost from B&Q, I'm considering giving mine a feed even though they have only got their seed leaves.

I put those seeds straight into Jack's Magic.

I normally sow in Westland Gro-Sure Seed and Cutting Compost, but as some other stuff that went in earlier seemed to be getting off to a very slow start and the bag of Jacks Magic I had open was lovely and fine I tried sone of my early tomatoes in that and they romped away, so my main sowing was all in Hacks Magic.

Thanks @Scrungee, it's not just my tomatoes struggling in the Westland seed compost a few other plants are too, like peppers and chillies. Conversely all my onions seedlings love it. Last year it was the other way round, my onions all struggled and tomatoes etc did Ok. Seems there is a lesson here, tomatoes like a rich seed compost. I should have know this but compost formula must vary year on year - and probably varies between batches.

I gave my tom seedlings a weak feed of MiracleGro to see if they improve.

The Westland The Gardeners Multi-Purpose Compost i recieved from Marshals is absolute rubbish , i have had to mix it with other compost and coco coir to use it, it is woody and will not hold moisture at all. I only ordered it as the compost i normally use is so expensive on the internet. (Levington M2) I will avoid westland like the plague in the future it looks like sweepings from under pine trees
                  regards Sandy

@JWK have just potted up your Gardeners Delight seedlings using Jacks Magic for both sowing and potting up, looking good . :)

Also started off some Tumbling Tom in Jacks but potted some up in Jacks and some in a Westland low peat mp compost, so will be interesting to see how the two compare.

They look grand, but 95p seems a bargain price, just bought a single Shirley from one of our better garden centers at £1.99

We basically operate a cash and carry service, plus we are mainly a plant centre.
We are also out in the sticks with only a narrow road access to our premises, so we offer good plants and compost at a fair price. We don't have a fancy set up, just set up the business that customers always return.
