Due to the fact all my tomato plants on the allotment have got blight I'm getting most of my toms off a really untidy and ugly hanging basket type plant, "Garden pearl" I think it is.

But for the space and the amount of compost it has its coming up with loads of cherry sized toms.

I even forget to feed and water it, but it still carries on.

Munching away on the Sungolds,Terenzo and Arctic toms.
Ailsa Craig plants are very strong this year as are the San Marzano II. These really are beasts in pots. One has had some blossom end rot on a couple of trusses.

Fingers crossed as it could all go pear shaped anyday :fingers crossed:

Does anybody else grow Orange Paruche? I find they have more flavour, less prone to splitting, firmer and last longer both on the plant and after picking than Sungold. I've not bought any for some time as I got loads of packets from Wyevale when they were reduced and could pay in printable vouchers (so free, my favourite price). Cheap Wyevale seeds

        Screenshot_20210730-190251.png

As I'm down to my last 4 packets I checked what the price would be when I have to use real money, and was shocked to discover Mr Fothergills have discontinued them, and there was discussion on another forum in 2019 about them being unavailable elsewhere, with some posters reporting they'd resorted to buying F2 seeds from ebay that didn't come true.

Fortunately I found 2 suppliers and have ordered enough F1 seeds to keep me going for several years. Orange Paruche F1 and TOMATO ORANGE PARUCHE F1 SEEDS | New & Featured Vegetables

I tried them a few years ago and thought Sungold were slightly nicer for my taste. I haven't had any issues with Sungold splitting this year, actually all my varieties haven't shown any splitting problems so far. They are just very slow, we are picking just enough for our needs but in a normal year we would be dehydrating the excess by now.

What fertilizer is being used this year? I've considered Chempak before but never got round to buying any. I'm seeing more organic ones getting peddled this year too

I'd go for a seaweed feed to improve flavour Andy.

Chempak do a seaweed plus tomato fertilizer (think this is the one I was looking at before) so might give it a whizz. If I buy it now I might even get to try it this year before the blight gets them lol

At long last, my tomatoes are finally beginning to turn! Usually, at this time of the year, I’ve been picking for a few weeks. Everything’s unbelievably slow this year. Hope this doesn’t mean I get stuck with loads of green tomatoes- there’s only so much chutney I can make!

I've had a few cherry tomatoes but nothing else. I think there's a hint of colour change but it might be hopeful thinking!

Found this 12" plant today in my front garden in a pile of sharp sand. It's well away from my veg patch so how it got there only God knows, growing amongst rubble in a building project in a shaded area. The sand can't have any nutrients in it yet the plant looks healthy. I was half tempted to pot it up but we are too late in the season to get anything worthwhile, plus I don't have any space. There were a couple of other a bit smaller.

Just shows they don't need much fussing just need sowing when the weather is right.
Trouble is we wouldn't get any fruit in this country.

I had one growing up through the weed membrane on my gravel drive! I was quite impressed.

Been eating cherry toms regularly for a few days now. However my Costoluto Fiorentinos have just started to turn.

Also I think my very first Purple Ukraine is turning. It's got the slightest yellowy hue cast over the green. Excited about that one because the toms on the plant are huge so if I get enough picked in one batch I should be able to start preserving some for sauces.
