Started my tomatoes today four varieties Sungold, Honeycomb, Steak Sandwich, and jwk’s Gardeners Delight, will sow the same again later in April plus Alicante and Alisa Graig all in hydroponics but will put a couple or two of the later plants in the garden

That's an early start @Tomhip - do you have growlamps to stop them going leggy?

I start mine off the 3rd or 4th week in February under growlights and they still go a little leggy, this season I'm starting 2nd week March.

I usually wait until the clocks change before sowing my tomatoes. I don't have a greenhouse so there really isn't anywhere to put them apart from a sunny windowsill until it's warm enough outside.

That said, I did pop some Veranda Red seeds in the propagator as I had some space and it's meant to be a tiny pot plant so I thought I'd experiment with them and see how soon I can get a ripe tomato.

Yes under grow lights timed a couple of hours in the morning and the same in the evening I’ve done it another year but the seeds were sown on Valentine’s Day then and I had good results

If any of my seed is still viable (as someone moved it out of the fridge where I stored it, mentioning no names other than Er indoors) I will be attempting the following:

              Manx Marvel
              JWK's Gardeners Delight
              Big Zac
              San Marzano
Unknown variety, saved some seed from a very tasty shop bought tomato, probably a hybrid but I won't know until I've grown it?

Not doing anything else as I'm still recovering from a serious illness and broken back.

As it looks like I'll not replace the roof on my greenhouse in time, I've just ordered a couple of blight resistant varieties, Honey Moon and Primabella.
They'll go in pots on the patio and dotted around where I find a gap :)

Hello again and happy New year! I've just read all the 2022 posts in one go and really enjoy this community :blue thumb:.

I'm still scarred from last year's blight wipe out (heart breaker it was) and resolved not to do tomatoes for two clear years to try to kill the spores in the soil. I gave heaps of strong seedlings to friends ... They all croked too. Seedlings that is. Definitely due to my contaminated soil as well as the weather last year. How embarrassing!

Well, reading your posts stirs something in me and now I'm thinking about growbags and a few clean pots. That's the trouble with tomatoes.. they give me a kick like nothing else! Thanks for the inspiration and wishing you an excellent growing season ahead :spinning:

Good to see you back @Cynthia Chloris and changing your mind, go for it! Try a few blight resistant varieties this year as insurance.

Going to plant my Tom's tomorrow! Everything later than last year. Although one (Ddraig Goch) is a greenhouse variety it will eventually go outside in a sheltered spot. It's also a cordon. The other, Crimson Crush, is an outdoor bush that's GUARANTEED blight free! Mine I buy from Medwyn Williams of Anglesey (where I'm from!)

Was watching a programme last night and a chap gave his tip to avoiding blight - spraying with full fat cream diluted 1:10! His plants (albeit potatoes) certainly looked very good
