It's called greenback, caused by high temps and too much sunlight! I suspect a few of us are going to have some fruit like that. I think some varieties are more susceptible. They are still edible if you cut away the green bits.

I was cutting up one of mine today and it has that green hard part under the skin.
I was going to take a picture but ate it instead.

I don't actually know why you shouldn't eat green tomatoes, after all we make chutney out of unripened ones at the end of the season. I suppose the cooking process gets rid of the bad stuff in chutney.

@Sheps There's more varieties on the way, even a green when ripe one (I guess I'll just have to squeeze it to see when ripe)

Can't wait to try the Barbastro and pitting it against the Limbaugh for taste.

The real struggle is the yellow Brandywine which is so slow to grow and ripen.

Yet again some wonderful fruit, you are a clever lot!! Forgotten mine back home as I enjoy the mountain views, hear far off lambs bleating and watch the squabbling birds. We're 1000 feet above sea level and it's extremely hot, but blissful!

                      Hello all,

The tomato glut is starting. We are currently picking more than we can eat each day so we need to make some sauces etc.

Monday, 27deg, huge wind knocking over parasols, smashing mugs BUT still so hot! Sound of thunder but not here! Gardener off paddling in warm sea water. I stayed sensibly behind 2' thick walls! No watering tonight! Home tomorrow! Back to reality!

Some rain was predicted so thought best to pull in some blushing Fred Limbaugh (bottom right) and some other usual suspects.

Anyhow, the rain lasted 30 seconds....

Today's pickings, a lot from the outside plants at the allotment, I haven't visited for a few days so was pleasantly surprised at the amount ripened
