    Mind boggling mixture of obviously tasty toms! Mind you taste is so individual!!!
    Also it amazes me how much cross breeding has gone on in some places. It worries me that although a variety has a particular name it's a mixture of characteristics from its breeding. It strikes me that none is pure bred, particularly if its been grown in the same place for some years. Surely the plant might look the same but is always, each year a hybrid, particularly if many varieties are grown in the same place???
    I agree that self pollination is always happening which is how pure breds are produced in large professional nurseries.
    What am I missing????

      Only ones I have are tiny little green bullets. I'm away for a week so they'll either ripen or the plants will die!

        The little tip about tapping the basket seems to be working have lots more Tom's appearing:blue thumb:

                Does look like it pete. Ive got it on a few plants, hopefully they will recover now the really hot weather has gone. By 'recover' I mean new fruit won't have it.

                  The plant that those two came off is a bit thin and weedy for some reason.
                  The others have more leaves so maybe the fruit will have been shaded from the sun during the hot weather.

                    I've lost quite a few plants due to wilting/weedy looking. Any that are starting to set are just one Tomato on each truss.

                      Mine are just as bad! I counted the number of fruits on the surviving 10 plants on the balcony & I came up with ... (drum-roll,please) ... 7! :sad::cry3:

                          Fingers crossed for everyone having problems, I know my Super Sweet 100 has really suffered due to the heat and was Green Back central until I removed all the effected fruits.

                                There is hope for my 4 wilted plants, they are gradually recovering.

                                Having tested the compost I think my problem was alkaline (pH 7.5) compost with excess Phosphorus and low Nitrogen.

                                So I stopped feeding them with standard tomato food as that has Phosphorus and flushed the compost with several cans of clean water, hoping to remove some of the Phosphorus.

                                Since then I've used sequestrene plant tonic and straight Nitrogen. The aim is to acidify the compost and boost vegetative growth. Luckily I had side shoots further down that have grown to replace the withered main tips.

                                Photo today of the worst affected plant, Stupice, with the old brown withered tip on the lower left and new side shoot right:

                                Today I got some straight Potash feed I'll use that with the Nitrogen to encourage flowers and fruit.

                                I'm not saying this is the cause of everyone else's withered plants. The cooler weather must play a part.
