I gave my son 2 'Gardener's Delight' tomato plants back in May & I harvested at least a kilo of toms from them when I went up to water all his plants while he was on holiday with his family. That's at least 10 times more than I got from my TEN plants!

Just finished the paste with one sealed kilner and and two trays of ice cubes for freezing. I didn't think 10lbs would ever reduce but it did. Knock out taste and tomato intensity.

@JWK it has no name other than indigo red F3, now the seed will be F4 so will not be named until it stabilises . It is just an experimental cross, the yellow indigo F3 has much more anthocyanins expression, this red one may yet...It lost a lot of it in the F2 to F3 stage. The growth though is interesting as it good thick vines and I haven't seen the roots yet but imagine they are large. I shall get to have a proper taste soon thou' :-)

Interesting @SunnyGin, hoping it tastes as good as it's ancestors.

Are you the one doing the crossing? I had a go at crossing my very tasty Gardeners Delight (2005 strain) with a blight resistant variety last year but failed, left it too late and lost to blight ironically. It was my first attempt at crossing tomatoes and I made it up as I went along, snipping off the anthers of an unopened flower etc. That was very fiddly.

@JWK yes it is, but the hard work is growing out enough of each cross to see all the variations. I can't do that so may have to backtrack if I am not entirely happy, this is just for fun though.

@JWK This year's cross, apart from the one I mistakingly ate (oops) is SMFL x Tasmanian Chocolate so I might have to grow out quite a few plants to see what variations there are. I really love the multiflora trait but I also love a number of the traits of the Tasmanian Chocolate. The cross was fiddly as the flowers taking the pollen were not large. Again it's all a bit of fun.

First dwarf Parfait to ripen, the last tomato variety to ripen. A bit bland unfortunately, which is a shame. Also todays haul. The largest was azoychka at 390g. JWK,

My new dehydrator arrived 2 days early so this morning we picked 5kg of cherry tomatoes and cleaned them and cut them in half, salted them and stacked them in the dehydrator. On your recommendation I've set the timer to 32hours at 60C.

I'll keep you informed as to how they look and taste when they are finished.

                            20220823_133839.jpg

I assume the spacing will be OK as they shrink?

                            20220823_133824.jpg

When they are finished I have some chilis to try!

                            Regards

                            Ademission

Enjoy the tomato essences wafting around your kitchen @Ademission ;)

That lot might take longer than 36 hrs, I only have 6 trays. You can keep checking. Spacing looks ok, they soon shrink and let the hot air circulate.
