I have stopped all my outdoor tomatoes thinking any new trusses won't have time to develop and ripen before the weather turns. I have a few in the greenhouse I am still letting grow in case we get an Indian summer.

        SunnyGin,

A bit of info about the dehydrator as you seem interested.

It's made by Andrew James (bought on Amazon) and has a maximum power of 400w. It comes as standard with 6 trays. Each tray and the lid can be turned horizontally to give a choice of food height (without measuring I estimate 0.75" and 1.5" respectively). In my photograph I have it set to the 1.5" setting. I bought 4 more trays (10 total). The temperature can be set between 40C and 70C in 5C increments and the time can be set from 1 to 48hours in 1 hour increments. I also bought 2 packs (6 per pack) of silicon coated sheets that allow fruit leather or very fine items to be dried. They fit around the air chimney and are re-useable.

I'll give more info on its performance as I get the first results. I think JWK is happy with his and I'm using his recommended settings as a starting point.

Let me know if you have any questions.

        Ademission

@JWK gosh i just so struggle to top them off as wh o knows what the weather will bring. I am going to top off any that aren't cherries, as cherries can grow and ripen quickly. There, said and done now. Job for tomorrow.

Nearly all my outside grown Happy Day and Crimson Crush appear to have green back to some extent.

Not grown either before so wonder if this is fairly normal for these varieties or it is down to the weather.

I found green back on some varieties grown outdoors at my allotment yesterday. Strangely the same varieties at home in the greenhouse are fine, although I did have shading up till recently.

I'm not growing those varieties pete, the worse ones for me are Magic Mountain, Fantasio, Black Cherry and Stupice. I cut off the green bits and the rest tastes ok.

I am still getting blossom end rot on Santonio a red plum type both in the greenhouse and outdoors.

I think I have signs of blight at the allotment too, Black Cherry fruit looks to be infected but not the leaves so I'm not sure.

I was just wondering if in the process of breeding in the genes for blight resistance they had also bred in a susceptibility to green back.

My Incas, not blight resistant, are not having the same problem but they are a bush variety.

I've just picked another bunch of Incas.
Only got 3 plants and they look pretty awful but I've been picking them for three weeks now most days I get a few. I've just picked a few slightly under ripe ones due to the buckets of rain forecast for tonight. 20220824_105316.jpg
