The blight pictures bring back nasty memories! I'm very sorry for you and glad to see your greenhouse!! I've been very lucky for the last ten years at least and now (last 2 years) have grown the tolerant and resistant though I've noticed that many of these varieties are coming down with the dreadful lurgy! Perhaps, like Covid, newer more virulent versions have evolved. I appreciate that the Blight disease is not a virus, though fungi and bacteria are able to evolve ?
I was going to plant Broad Beans in the containers that I'd planted my outdoor Tom's but now realise that even Autumn sown will not produce a harvest before July so the beans would be taking up tom-space!!! Can't have that!!!

I've been ripening the last few outdoor toms in the shed.
They are still ripening but they are very acidic to taste.

I think its too late now so I'll just get rid of them.

One of my varieties, Primabella, still looks remarkably healthy and is still producing.

All the rest I've stripped off all leaves and leaving the fruit on the plant to ripen. They still taste ok so far.

So what do I grow next season? Daft question??? You grow so many varieties that perhaps you can't choose, say 6 varieties ???? I seem to have seen Black Russian OFTEN mentioned, so perhaps that's how choice can be made ???? However as taste will be an important criterion it really will be impossible ???

@Glynne Williams, I recall you don't actually eat them yourself, so much depends on your partner's personal preferences, such as:

                Size: Cherry vs Beefsteak.

Colour: Red, Yellow, Black - the black ones I find to have a savoury taste.

Then there are factors such as blight resistance and earliness and yield. Gosh I'm making it more difficult for you !

Have a look at the Taste Test thread to get some ideas:

                Tomato Taste Test 2022

I've grown it in the past and found it to be very late ripening with a poor yield, it did taste nice but I found other black varieties more worthwhile. Others will disagree I'm sure.

@Glynne Williams I don't have that worry as I have a lot of seeds of Gardener's Delight from earlier this year!

I agree @Balc, Gardener's Delight is a 'must grow' for me along with Sungold. If I could only grow two it would be those, and number one is GD

Thanks for the responses! I used to grow Gardener's Delight every year but wonder about provenance of present day seed? Was it an F1? Seems it might well be an inadvertent one now?
Yes I don't eat raw Tom's so analysing the taste column will be useful, thanks!

'Gardeners Delight' is an old open pollinated tomato. F1 seed, whether flowers or veg, are specially selected crosses that won't come true from saved seeds. Whereas GD will! But I agree they don't taste like they used to!:frown:

Balc : Thanks for your information re GD. THE CHANGE IN TASTE 'over the years' is just the point I'm concerned about, and not just in GD. I called it 'inadverdant' F1. Is that even possible? Taste is obviously very important (though not to me because of not eating raw Tom's, and frankly a loss of taste generally!) However my wife, "the gardener" now, should, I feel, be growing the genuine article.
Thus Blight resistance is becoming very important. I'd hate to see her face if she came in with details of the dreaded disease. I can remember how I felt when I first encountered it!!! Not had it for some years in potatoes or Tom's, though Crimson Crush has helped, and here anyway, non of the others grown have succumbed. Dreadful for those who've had it this year (even CC it seems!)
