My seeds have all germinated from last weekend apart from the Red Zebra, no sign of life yet when I checked this morning. Everything else came up within four or five days. I'll give it a couple of days then I might sow again.

That's a great result then @Garrett. Just checked mine and after almost 2 weeks, nothing! Jolly cross I am. Shall start again and follow the @Hanglow fine example and put a few in each module rather than having whole trays which take up too much space and are just trays of compost clearly! Loud TUT. Very poor germination considering that the greenhouse is really warm most days and the cosmos and seed dahlias are all coming up quickly and the dahlia tubers are shooting well.

Almost all plants need light to photosynthesise but how much direct sun can be a bit different, we all know of shade loving plants. You may find if it's too dark the plants will get leggy like our seedlings do if we don't get them the light they crave. I'm sure you can get a crop, it might just be a smaller one.

I've never had problems germinating tomato seed until this year.
I bought a packet of Homycomb from T&M I think it only contains about 8 or 9 seeds and after two weeks I have one seedling.
I have them in the Airing cupboard now as they were doing nothing in the propagator at 22c.

Sweet peppers and the one chilli type I'm growing have all germinated along with Datura seeds.
They have one more week before I chuck them, I'll be putting my outdoor seed in before these surface the way its going.

The packet I got last year had poor germination so I tried a second batch and compared to other varieties were week and spindly. I put it down to a dodgy packet. I got another and they were fine.

The seedling I have looks pretty weak.

I have noticed differences and I am unsure whether it's the seed or the compost, my suspicion is the compost. I'm due in hospital this week for an operation, once recovered I'm planning doing a video on compost as I am contemplating going back to making my own potting compost for seed sowing, just like my Dad did in the 1950's and 1960's.

Best wishes for your op @burnie and here’s to a swift recovery so you can get back to your garden.

looking forward to video and your further research.

My rubbish tomato non germinationers are all in Miracle Gro peat free as this has been the smoothest lot I have found out of the peat free choices.

My Toms are a bit hit and miss so far, these are all fresh seed. I will leave my growlights on and hour or so longer.

I'll be sowing my 'Gardener's Delight' seeds tomorrow! Hope to have them germinate in a few days. I hope the weather plays ball in the coming month or two as it will be very difficult to keep them in the flat. I'm inundated with plants! :roflol:
