We only have 4 plants growing which is plenty for the 2 of us to eat fresh.
They've been out in our greenhouse for about 5 weeks now ( in containers) and get moved outside during the day. If temps dip
    overnight then they get fleeced.

They are a bit more tolerant of cold temperatures than chillis but yeah it's still a bit much for them. I'm aiming to put mine out next weekend though. They are outside all day now, even though yesterday was only about 8c with the wind chill.

Found a variety of tomato today that I have never seen in the local GC's.

It was called Amish Golden and from the pictures on Google it looks really good.

Has anyone grown it before and if so did it taste good?

I grew Amish Paste a while back. Very acidic and generally 'average'. Could be a twist on the variety maybe?

The blurb on the internet says it tastes like Sungold, which can't be a bad thing.

I was just wondering if that is the case, as I might just have room for one more plant.

Never grown it so can't help. You'll have to let us know when it comes to harvest.

It may be a silly question, but, what is better for Tomato plants, sitting outside on a dullish day or under indoor growlights.

It's a good question, I just measured light levels with my meter.

              7,500 lux outside heavy cloud
37,000 lux under my growlamps (equivalent to a clear sunny day)

              So well worth using growlamps.

My tomatoes are under grow lamps today but very soon they will be too big. I'm moving them outside on sunny days but they do get damaged, leaves locking together etc. I'll be glad to get them planted hopefully within the next fortnight.

I put my lights away a few weeks ago, they didn't seem to be doing much.
My plants were still getting leggy.
It is early May you know

Getting some volunteers in the greenhouse borders now.

I'm going to put mine in the greenhouses this week I think. Still cool but when the sun comes out it hits high 20s and even today in dull weather it was 18c in there

I'll start getting ready for planting mine into the greenhouse soon and hopefully the mice won't eat them!

Even though it has been very cool and raining for days I began taking tomatoes from the grow tent and LED light today and putting them in the greenhouse. It is heated during the night, and even with the cool weather it is in the high 60s F during the day. From past experience I know that within a very few days they will really begin to grow. The containers are Autopots, so the plants will be gravity fed with water and nutrients controlled by float valves in the trays.
