Maybe it's blossom end rot?:scratch::scratch:

Its blight, its not blossom end rot.
I think all the blight resistant ones are only that, resistant, not 100% unaffected.

Cheers!! But it's the possibility of fruit being affected by fungal spores rather than the plant I.e. the blight goes into the fruit from OUTSIDE rather than from WITHIN the plant?

I think blight always affects all parts of the plant from the outside, as far as I know, its fungal and not bacterial.
But I'm not a scientist, but if it was internal then things like copper sprays would have no effect on blight.

I lost Crimson Crush in past years to blight. All the other blight resistant varieties vary in their tolerance of blight. They all caught it last year, some were worse affected and others hardly showed any symptoms.

Even though I had just 4 tomato plants, it still seems that I have been lucky in only having black aphids on my plants.-is this because mine have been open to the elements?

Sending photos of the last of my tomatoes, both photos are from my Super Marmande plants.
The Beefsteak F1 has more or less finished with just 3 large green tomatoes left on.

I had quite a few misshapen and leaf/branch marks on the tomatoes which is partly my fault as I read that when trusses have more than 4-5 flowers on them, it is best to pinch the other flowers off on larger verities as they need space to grow. “me being me, I was visualising my plants covered in tomatoes and so decided to brush this information to one side looking forward to a bumper grow - NOT!
Apart from eating them straight from the vine and cooking a few meals, I now have 4 kilner jars of chutney which will hopefully stay unopened until Christmas - "now that is wishful thinking!"

Next year I think I will grow one of the Super Marmande ... “which has just got me thinking now, that I could same seeds from my own Marmande as it isn’t a F1 plant … "I will have to brush up on that one as soon as possible"

Cheers Pete I agree, infection has to come from the outside! Obvious really! So whichever part is infected it will show!!
Cheers JWK This is third year with Crimson Crush, never had problems. No blight here in that time either mind!!
Worst thing is that I predicted the bloody disease the way they were planted and the predicted weather!!!

I was checking my tomatoes this evening & was quite surprised to see that the self-sown plant now has 2 trusses with ripening toms! None of the other plants are anywhere near it at present!

There are other plants with trusses that have set but it will be a few more weeks before any of them are ripe enough to pick.

Proof that tomatoes are berries .
Now all of the Houdreds and Thousands picked up and plants pulled out. Despite of them "eating" all of their leaves (did grow in a pot) I wouldn't say that pot was fully packed with roots. I think I underwatered them on early stages of growing, what made leaves to yellow and dry. Still decent amount of tomatoes (bowls are deep) 20230825_201827.jpg

Can anyone offer some advice please...

                      Saving seeds

I understand that it isn't worth save seeds from any F1 tomato plants as the taste will be more diluted. so that rules out my Beefsteak F1
So now I am looking at a label from my Tomato Super Marmande - a semi-determinate bush plant. It doesn't say its a F1 so can I assume I can save the seeds.

I have read that the Marmande is a heirloom variety, and you can propagate from its own seeds, but I cannot find any info on the Super Marmande
I'm wondering ... if it doesn't mention anything on the label then it will be ok!

Super Marmande isn't a F1 hybrid so you can save seed.

I'm thinking Super Marmande is just a selection of Marmande.
I remember years ago, Marmande was not considered good for greenhouse growing, it was an odd plant with a strange growth habit.
When Super Marmande came along it was then said to be ok for greenhouse growing.:dunno:

I'm finding a pest on my greenhouse plants that have never been a problem before, mealy bugs.
