Here is the latest photo of my tomato plants on the balcony:

I pinched the tops out of the highest plants at the start of the month. I have quite a few toms now - they are not visible in this photo, unless you blow it up real big!

I've been removing some of the leaves as well. Perhaps some of the trusses might be more visible if I took another photo, tomorrow?

I've left the rest of my plants to the tender mercies of my neighbour. I'm in France, trying out lots of tomatoes and saving seed from my faves.

You lot have some wonderful trusses, well done!! Started a week's holiday literally on the banks of the Menai Strait so no Tom's for a week!! As we drove down THE GARDENER told me that she thought the Tom's were a real success this year !!!! "What about the Blight ??" , I said. "Ah well we stripped them all so quickly and the few in the greenhouse and plastic greenhouse (4 plants) have really done well!!"
So someone is appreciating her gardening!! Looking down on Herons proving real fun and grandaughters on the Euston train (arriving 11.00) and son and partner, with her harp, driving in tomorrow!!! received_998748864780336.jpeg

I polished off the tomatoes I picked yesterday! They all tasted very good - much better than the big toms from the supermarket - even if the handful hardly made one of them! :heehee:

I grew Honeycomb and because the germination was poor I also bought a packet of Honey delight.
Really liked the taste of the small sweet Honeycomb, but I'm dumping the Honey Delight, good cropper but tasteless, acidic and thick skinned.
                    I wont grow those again.

I have loved Sungold. And so has anyone else I gave them to. Tbh, prefer them to the Gardens Delight 2015 that I was kindly given seeds of. Though both are far tastier than Carbon, Peche and Cerise, which I only grew because tempted by plants at a local farmers market

Some of my tomatoes are for the chop soon as they have just about finished and I need the space to start moving things into the greenhouse in part for winter, but also to dry out before they stop growing.
In the past few weeks white fly have become an issue.

I got rid of the last few toms in the greenhouse last week but still got some peppers in there.
Space will be coming short soon as the weather looks like its on the turn next week.

I only have three plants left with fruit to ripen and a couple of peppers, looking very end of season, picked a few "Breakfast" tommies and a handful of tiny "Garden Pearl", they will be finished by the end of the week I think, then it'll be empty and wash inside before putting things to bed for the winter.

IMG_20230916_193023.jpg You know what? After spending the best part of a week in France, buying and trying so many fab-looking tomatoes, mostly claiming "heritage" / "ancienne" origins, I dipped into the last of the Haley's Sweet Mystery and Kraft's Purple Sugar I'd brought with me and realised that home grown tastes soooo much better.

Greenhouse is still churning out toms :) not sure the melons will amount to anything though.
