Kandyfloss - herewith a copy of my grandmother's tomato sauce recipe. We loved this as children, and its one of the few things that tasted the same when we tried the recipe in adulthood.

6lb tomatoes, washed and cut into chunks
    2 large onions - sliced
1 desert spoon of all spice and pepper corns
    1 desert spoon of salt
    4 tablespoons of sugar
    4 bay leaves
    few sprigs of parsley
    1 pint of vinegar

Boil for at least an hour. strain thoroughly , add a little cornflour and boil up again if not thick enough.

Its not as thick a consistency as heinz - but the taste is far far better.

Both Rosa's and Fran's recipes sound yummy, albeit both in vast quantities! They are also very similar to the two I found so I wan't repeat them. Let us know how it goes. [IMG]

The link above is for a short clip about tomatoes, how to store them away in jars for a long time.
You have to click the link and then just above the picture.
Roughly, this is how to proceed:
    1) Prepare jars, clean and sterilized
    2) bring some water to boiling point, then cook the tomatoes in it for 3 min.
    3) take the tomatoes out of the water, peel them and take away the hard bits
    4) put one basilicum leaf at the bottom of each jar. Then tomatoes. Then add some lukewarm salted water to cover the tomatoes and at the top add another leaf.
I would suggest to press the tomatoes and not leave any spaces.
    5)close the jar well tight
    6) wrap it in a cloth and place it in a pot vertically, covered by water. Boil for 1 hour .
Let the water to cool down even for the whole night.
