Which kind of fits in with my thinking, its nothing to do with the variety, more the growing conditions.

 

So far i've only had Manx Marvel, Gloden Sunrise and plum tomatoes ripen.

Manx Marvel is lovely

Only cooked with the other 2.

 

A poor year for the usual toms i grow BUT .... my out door Glacier toms have been great ,big juicy and well tasty. Will be growing these from now on up against a south facing wall. 9/10.

 

been a good year for me all grown outside !
marande, great flavour,good cropping with large tasty fruits 10/10.
gardeners delight ,medium to small fruit but lots of em ,taste bland ,4/10
tigarela (spelling)will grow them again,small fruits,a sharp taste but a sweet after taste,good cropping,7/10
allicanti ,only planted 1 bush (ran out of room)good crop medium fruits sweet taste,8/10.
plum toms ronda ,good crop but could have done with a earlier start to get em ripe sooner ,taste bland but fleshy, 5/10 .
thompson & morgan blight resistant trial no name ,low yield,dull looking fruit, dull taste more foliage than iv'e seen on any other tomato plant! 3/10

Taste, ripening and yield.....

Sungold 6 - 9 - 9
Gourmet 7 - 6 - 6
Manx Marvel 3 - 6 - 7

After recommendation I found Sungold a disappointment. At mid harvest I found them quite acidic and the sweetness has been erratic all through the season. I'm about to discard the last of them as they are bitter.

Gourmet were nothing special and the ripening and size of each fruit was uneven.

Manx Marvel.... I find they have very little flavour but for a vintage tomato have a good yield although slow to ripen. I only grow these for Chutney.

 

We only grew four varieties...

Tumbling Tom red 7-8-8 (a little sharp, although good flavour, over 10kg from 6 plants)
Gardeners delight 8-8-7 (OK, I grew up with these, but love the flavour!)
Harbinger 6-8-8
Yellow pear 8-8-? (Just two plants, started early July, still cropping! But didn't keep s tally of how much we harvested)
