We have our heating on a lot but the roof is covered in snow. The loft is well insulated but not as much as they recommend now. Each time I increased the amount of insulation (got a grant for the first lot, years ago) they then go and increase the recommended amount a year later. The way they're going I'll need to fill the loft completely!

saw a tv program a while ago ....

the police have helicopters that fly around after a snowstorm and check the thermal images from house roofs

they nick many people who have cannabis farms in their lofts, as the snow melts a lot quicker

my wife has a friend in cambridge who rented her home to a guy when she went on an overseas contract

the guy had several mates living there and the whole top floor plus loft was converted into a cannabis farm with sophisticated heating and airconditioning with huge ducts all over the place

after a tip off, the house was raided .... and door smashed during the raid

cost her thousands to sort, this happened recently, and is still trying to claim from the insurance

Last summer, B & Q here were selling roof lagging for £3 a roll, in conjunction with a government scheme. We took the opportunity and topped ours up. It's now well over a foot deep. :)

          05h30 and it's -13 degrees in Cambridge ....

garden centres must be 'rubbing their hands' .... I think many tender plants in gardens will be toast .... so sales will boom with replacements in a few weeks time

We've not had the temps particularly cold here, i now judge by last winters temps where we experienced -12.
At this moment in time it's -3.

, Blimey Dim, you're definitely going to need a jack hammer to work your soil :D

We've currently got -8.7, tropical by your standards....:heehee:

We had it down to -15 on several occasions last winter but nothing close to that this year; -9 last week was the coldest...
