jazid, you should try some winter protection for those banana stems. They take about 4 years and 6 foot to flower but its worth it. [IMG]

I posted it in the chelsea comp, but I doubt I will get anywhere. They have shown loads of great floral shots already.

Waco, I know this little washingtonia is alot less terminal than yours but it shows what I PM'd you about growing through the damaged leaf tissue.

You can see the staggered line where it has become chilled mid launch from the crown. Another freeze and defrost and I recon I would have lost it.

Needless to say it is in full sun. Washingtonias need it hot to grow well.

Thanks roders, I wasn't even sure if I would qualify as I had real trouble getting them sent. Mr Titchmarsh said the system had crashed at one point. Still i am going to get this one printed off for my office wall I think is so bizare almost menacing!

This looks like a drainage problem, as they are supposed to be hardy. It has been a brutal winter/spring. I have three Phoenix Canariensis that have gone the same way, the middles have gone brown and just pulled out, but the outside looks so green that I can't believe they are finished. An agarve, two years ago, had a fasciated centre, but it just grew another. So hope springs eternal.
