    Here is a guide for you and it would seem it's best for your Cherry to be cut now to avoid disease.

    Of course it's your decision whether to remove the top or leave it.

    Having looked at the first picture again I would also keep an eye on the damage near the base of the trunk. If it looks as if it's weeping at any point then it could be the first signs of disease.
