daft question, I keep freshwater tropical shrimp and part of there diet is leaves, I have cherry and Japanese maple trees in pots which I want to remove the leaves dry and store and use as feed . when can I remove the leaves ? and if I do will the leaves regrow ?

Best remove them now as they won't be much good as feed when they start going brown, just tanins and lignins in them after that.

They won't regrow this late in the year.

Hi @jon nash - is it worth freezing leaves instead? Dried ones surely are rather low in nutrients. After all, we freeze herb leaves like parsley...

good idea not sure, most leaves are usually dried then are soak in hot water before putting in tank .once the leaves start to biodegrade the shrimp eat the biofilm:)

oh, so rotten leaves don't matter ... Interesting. With normal pond fish we are always told to keep the pond clear of leaves in case they rot.
