        So, the time is fast approaching, I'm thinking next month? Sow in the cold greenhouse, or supply some heat?

        @Freddy
        yes early March cold greenhouse will be fine , just make sure they are covered up at night.
        The only problem with giving heat from a propagator if you are not quick enough they go very leggy overnight before you take them out as soon as you see the leaves emerging turn the heat down.
        So easy from seed I never have used heat and remember they have a tap root so theses work great *root trainers" upload_2015-2-15_10-28-33.jpeg

        they should be ready to go out last week of April / 1st week of May after hardening them off for a week or two.
        The leaf colour will indicate if deep purple/blue or white or yellow as the darker the foliage the darker the colour will be

            I cant wait to see them , they dont last long as a plant couple of years at most but just keep seed.

            I should imagine they are going to be at least 1 meter or even 2 this year , just make sure you dig compost in but NO feeding you will have all leaves no flowers or very little.

              Right, well I sowed the three seed I had back in early March and didn't show. On the premise that it might not flower/die, I bought one at a local nursery as insurance a week or so ago. You guessed it, the day after I bought it, one of the sowed seed popped it's head up :doh: And now, all three have germinated. Typical!

                  As an aside, the plant stayed green all winter, so I just trimmed it back to tidy it up. It's now in full growth. If it was going to snuff it, when is it likely to happen?

                  it would of by now normally from December on wards is the dicey time as the rot sets in , but we had a mild winter compared to 2011/12

                  so collect those seeds this year just in case

                      @Spruce , the main plant looks like it's on it's last legs. There are plenty of seed pods. However, some of the pods turned brown fairly quickly, whereas others have stayed green. I'm wondering if the brown ones are viable?

                        have you had a look inside (brown pods) as it sound that they are ripe inside and ready to collect if they have not fallen out already.

                        There are plenty of seed inside the brown pods, but as I said, do you think they will be viable? Last year, the pods took ages to ripen.

                          do the seeds look like last years after they had ripened as it must of been setting seeds for the past few weeks ?
