Money certainly IS an object! Making the trellis is also an option wiseowl but with the wall being 11m in length, this may take a long time?!

Personally for that sort of length I would use vine eyes rather than trellis.

Thanks Jane, much appreciated. Any thoughts on how you would install it in this instance?

They are usually still manufactured at the traditional Imperial measurements (1ft, 2ft, 3ft) but if you're buying an arched fence topper that is 2ft high it should be about right. 2ft is approx 60cm but that is the measurment at the side of the panel. So the arch rises above it and will be pretty close to 80cm in the middle.

As the panels are not all that heavy you may be able to clamp them to the top of the wall. The suppliers should be the best people to ask.

Actually I just re-read the thread. You could put vine eyes at either end and then string tensioned wires between the two.

Personally I would call the bricklayer back in and ask him to build up on the piers he put in on the other side of the wall, if they are the ones I'm imagining to the same height as the rest of the wall. Then mount battens on either side of the pillar and slot the trellis in place. I used to have a brick wall like this and the pillars blew down repeatedly, although we were using solid fencing which added extra strain to the pillars. Trellis probably wouldn't do this.

Hi Sam the battens are 6 ft in length ,so if you want a 6 x 6 ft trellis there's no sawing to do just lay the 6 batons on the ground and then another 6 batons across them in the opposite direction then just screw every other baton,if you want 6 x 3ft trellis just saw 6 battens in half,I use a measured template piece of batten for the squares,,One trellis takes 10 minutes:)
      11 meter's =36ft- 6 pieces of trellis:)

      Morning all,

After much deliberation, I can confirm as was recommended by some, that I will be battening onto the wall, held in my coach bolts and then fixing securely the trellis in between these battons. Obviously the trellis will sit just off the wall, but that can't be helped and sturdiness is indeed key. It'll soon be covered by Clematis, Jasmine and Roses anyway :)

Pics up when I've done it in a couple of weeks

As promised, did this last Tuesday morning and yesterday, and here she is. Couple of Clemetais Montana Mayleens, a jasmine and penny lane climbing rose are heading up to the slats as we speak. Thanks for all your help/advice :)

Are you going to treat the trellis with anything?

Looks good already but will look fab once covered in blooms :blue thumb:

Just keep an eye on the Montanas because they get huge and very heavy so you may need to do some hard pruning every once in a while.

Happy to say that it is fully treated which is great news :)

Thanks Merle, much appreciated! Do you think the Jasmine and Montanats will be covering the trellis byu next Summer, I'm aware they put on a lot of spring growth and go nuts! I'm happy to prune hard!
