Thank you @wiseowl but I know very very little about bike racing. I just admire all sportsmen that put their lives on the line for their passion and do something very well, be that riding a bike or throwing a dart....the latter aren't risking their lives tho other than perhaps some increasing their "base" :)to give themselves a solid platform to throw from!

These words say a lot about bike racers...

..and they are so positive about their attitudes.

Guy has been talking about 2015 being his last year and other aspects in his life taking priority.

His media career is well under way now and comparisons to Fred Dibnah have been many. He is a likable amiable most of all a normal lad with no heirs and graces and that is in my opinion why he is and will do very well.
You can see in Guys face that he has other things on his mind and I agree the fire is not burning as fiercely as it was . It would have been brilliant to see Guy win a TT but he has won in so many other ways that's for sure .

In my many years of biking I have seen very little trouble indeed . The bikers police each other and if anyone steps out of line they fear the wrath of their counterparts more than anything else. We may look a rag tag bunch but quite a few have and continue to raise much money for charities like Children s ones and Air ambulance.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it @wiseowl. :) It's a shame that the MGP isn't filmed when it runs for two weeks in August, you would enjoy that too. This is racing for the older bikes, the classics and boy, it's a lot noisier than T.T.

The laws here are fairly strict in all respects Silu and to give the Courts their due they don't mess around when sentencing. With the occasional exception, punishment mostly fits the crime committed.

You wouldn't believe that for the last fortnight all we could hear were bikes! It's such a relief on the ears when they all disappear for another year. :) It's also good to be able to drive on our roads normally, while the visitors are here it's a case of kerb hugging, slower driving and headlights in use when going against the grain ( the opposite way round the course) as most biking visitors tend to do ride the course in the same direction as it's raced. The mountain road is made one way while they are here too. I don't use it during T.T. it's to dangerous.

I agree with you Charlie, the packs of riders tend to look out for each other in all respects. However there is an exception, bikers visiting from one particular country are absolute maniacs on the road while they are here, taking huge risks with their lives and other peoples, surprisingly they seem to stay upright!

Mmmm. Well that rules out our area as I always had trouble staying upright.:biggrin::biggrin:

The Tiger Cub had quite a big engine for a first bike. I bet you had some fun on it? :)

Hi @Sheal yes wonderful days 3 or hundred of us going down to Margate ;) the favourite bikes if I can remember correctly were Triumph 500s, BSA Gold Stars or Bonnevilles Rockers ate greasy fry ups, washed down with steaming mugs of tea in transport cafés, such as the 'Ace Café on the North Circular and the Busy Bee on the Watford bypass.Mods and Rockers did not get on. Rockers thought Mods were effeminate, stuck-up or snobbish. It was a common jibe that they "couldn't tell the birds from the blokes". Mods thought Rockers were old-fashioned, dirty, greasy and uncouth.:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

My last bike around 1969 was a Bonnie 649 cc:smile:

My brother bought a Tiger Cub when he was 16. I remember that when it was running well, it sounded great. Unfortunately, it had a tendency to knock the big ends out. I think a lot of this was really because riders were revving it silly to keep up with the other Learner bikes of the time. If I remember correctly, the Cub only had about 10bhp, whereas BSA's C15 had 15. Hooligan bike of the time (for Learners) was this...

                      dQBZjjU (1).jpg

...which also happened to be my first legal :snork: bike. From the factory, it was slightly more powerful than the other two. Thanks to an article in a Magazine called Motorcycle Mechanics, riders soon learned how to tune it. Linking back to the TT Races, one of these got a 7th place in the 250cc Lightweight race of 1960.

                      Happy days!

My very first bike was a complete heap called a James 150. Performance was shattering ! 0 to 60 was ...... We'll never really as it was so slow ! Progressed onto a BSA Starfire which was a little better but pedestrian by today's standards !! It was Jap stuff after that and I went though bikes like mad ! Great days for sure and when I look at the prices the bikes we had make today it makes we wish the benefit of hindsight was achievable !

I can remember my brother doing the same things but he never made the ride to Margate as he didn't want the hassle there and at that time we lived near Southend, Essex. :) There were a couple of transport cafes in our area too which were renamed Greasy Spoons.

Really enjoyed the TT this year, an made up McPint won the senior...he nailed it. Even more impressive was the outright lap record on an older bike in comparison the zX10 and the S1000rr's which are up on power.
