    The types of tulips I plant and leave in forever and come up each year are;
    Kaufmanniana Hybrid (Water Lily Tulips) these have been in the same area 15 plus years.
    Species Tulips:
    Batalinii, Clusiana, humilis.
    Greigll Tulips--have marked and mottled foliage
    Again all the above are early flowering--mid April to May. Very colorful.

    Do they multiply and spread as well Redstar.

    I find the biggest problem of leaving tulips in the ground in the border (apart from their survival), is that you are forever digging them up when transplanting plants. And lifting them from the border is not easy when other things are growing over them either. So I am keeping mine at the moment in big pots - till I work out exactly how to keep them. :D

    the Water Lily tulips spread around by themselves, so I leave them alone.
    The others are in places that I will plant annuals around them. So when I want to separate them, I just wait until the annuals die back in the fall, or pull out the annuals and redo that area. Usually I redo an area every 3- 4 years. I have too much to be that anal. Work full time outside the home and all.
