Thanks for suggesting that :thumb: I had only thought about wanting to disguise the smell of the creosote.

My idea for next year is to remove the inner fence and build a multi-tiered wall so I have more levels to plant on.

Looking good John, you've put a lot of work in so far.

Idea for the front garden: Why not prune the boxus into the shape of a wheelie bin, thereby integrating the bins into the garden in a comic way? You could start a new trend!!

    Steve...:)

Looking good John. I like that you haven't just kept to the traditional practice for shaping.

Did you see shineys post about Chelsea's bin box? I'm going to see if I can find a photo of it, I'd love to copy that.

    Keep us posted.

    cheers

    hi john
i`ve been reading your thread and all i can say is you must be so proud of yourself, and your wife/partner must be overjoyed at the transformation.
all we need is some nice summer evenings when you can sit glass in hand and say thats all my own work and i am thrilled with what i have achieved :thumb:

I'm having a BBQ this weekend with some friends as they don't know that I've been working on the garden. I think some of them will be impressed.

Currently there is no wife/girlfriend but the garden is part of the plan for making entertaining the ladies a bit more enjoyable ;) A few cocktails on the patio, watching the sun going down... lol

Thanks! I have another Cordyline and two more Cannas to plant tomorrow (after seeing if I can find some of those cool planters like you have), plus the hanging baskets should be up by then, after that more pics will hopefully follow.

A few more photos as promised.

    The bargain patio set (£99).

The front garden now has a couple of baskets to liven it up a little:

One of the new Cannas. This one is Canna Tropical. It's awaiting a decorative pot at the moment.

And finally, the new basket in the back garden.

    Thanks, everyone! :thumb:

It's been really enjoyable and rewarding getting the garden looking this good. Everytime I think I'm finished, I then think of something else that may improve it further. My current idea is to get some form of solar uplighters to illuminate the pots at the far end of the garden rather than the messy wax.

I'm also looking for some way to warm the patio, maybe a chimnea, as I've met a young lady who I've invited round for dinner (and that's consequently made me consider growing fruit and veg....).

    I found those pots Dee.

Now I just need to drill some holes into the bottoms and plant the Cannas and Cordyline.

I was looking at solar lights, but I've not yet made up my mind.

However, the most important thing to me is that I've know some really nice young ladies and I'm hoping the sun will come out so we can have a few drinks on the patio :thumb:
