There are a few ways to buy online Michael - the likes of ATS, Kwik-Fit or National Tyres will let you drive in and order over the counter or order online, book a fitting date, and then drive in for fitting BUT they will quote you a much higher price if you go in to order them over the counter. It is a very dishonest trading model, but sadly it goes on quite a lot, and not only in the motor trade.

Another way is to go to the likes of BlackCircles, choose your tyres and then you can either have the tyres sent to your home for you to take to a fitting centre and pay to have them fitted yourself OR you can opt for a fully fitted price which then sees your tyres sent to one of their fitting centres (or a mobile fitter) that you nominate during the purchase process - you then go there on the specified date, and they fit your tyres.

Or, you have the likes of Event Mobile Tyres and eTyres where you book online and they come to your home or work with all the equipment needed on a van, and they fit your tyres there and then. I have used all of these options over the years, and found that BlackCircles are among the best.

I've used Event tyres in the past, mostly for convenience, they are good, but not the cheapest, and really only want to sell you two or more, otherwise they are quite expensive.

I ordered my tyres online Shiney and the cost of fitting is within the price. Apparently the reason behind them being cheaper online is because there is no middle man involved. They are delivered, in my case to National Tyres, directly from the manufacturer and no storage needed. To be honest I don't see how that makes a difference in the cost.

I saw some of the Dakar Car Rally on TV in the early hours of this morning. I wonder what sort of tyres they use.

2019 Dakar Rally kicks off into the Peruvian desert

This time it's being held in the Paracus region of the Peruvian desert. It's a beautiful area and I've had a go at driving some of it, in different vehicles, but none of the really tough parts or over the dunes.

For those of you that enjoy your alcohol, it's the home of the Pisco Sour cocktail, made with a grape brandy. The town of Pisco is on the edge of the desert.
