You're the last person who I thought would change. You've put up quite a few arguments. Who am I gonna have a sparring match with now ?
How about me Anthony. Osborne struggled with his last budget, and that was mild to what he intends now. The bloke wouldn't get it through parliament. He is pretty much a spent force as far as being chancellor is concerned. So he can poke his budget ideas. And Cameron is keeping a bit quiet at the moment, I'm just wondering what bombshell he is planning to hit us with next Wednesday?
Hi Pete, I think in his last budget he took a lot of stick/flack for what Ian Duncan Smith had planned for his department. I have had dealings ( via/with my local MP, who works in the Treasury Department ) with the slimeball which resulted in him being proved wrong and me receiving a substantial payment ( we're not talking hundreds here ) I was promised an apology but did I get it.... No ( well not from him or his department ). I wonder how much more money was frittered away in situations like mine. You say that was mild compared to what he wants to do now......... Are you in secret talks with him or something cuz I wasn't aware of any details being made public. Yes, once again we have had the press /media/ Brexiters making presumptions with nowt solid to go on. What about the millions of people who are now paying no Income Tax at all, for instance. I remember when Income Tax was almost 20% for people like myself in a bottom of the pile job ( I have always worked in hospitality or factories). Now, if i worked where I did when I had my accident I would be better off now than when I left 8 years ago. I do think though that this is digressing. Whether or not Osborne is still Chancellor in 6 months time, or whenever, is nowt to do with what we should be voting for next Thursday. This IS and SHOULD BE a vote about Europe ( remain or leave ), it should not be a vote for the Conservatives or the Labour Party, or whether you like this particular person or that one. What should be happening is that everyone's comments/remarks/statements should be taken as a whole and weighed up against each other. Unfortunately there is so much rubbish, guessing and histrionics going around that for many it Is making the decision hard.
I honestly don't know what to vote for.. I was in the leave boat up until last week. I'd love some unbiased info but I can't decipher half the bullpoo that's around.. is it scaremongering/propaganda/lies/truth or what
If your'e really undecided I'd say take the 2 or 3 factors most important to you and vote based on that. Personally I'll be voting out because immigration/over populating is a huge issue for me. If we stay in I can't see how our public services can continue to cope with the population rising the way it is.
I can't just base it on people movement, nhs or team Boris. I live just over the hill from a Welsh town that receives shedloads of £££ from the EU as it has (just because) a Welsh assembly government building there. It would seriously have a knock on effect for the valleys if we left. But I can't just base it on that either. I need proper info
I often change my mind. I try to look for the fundamental undercurrents of a situation rather than the details we see on the surface. There's a strange and terrifying fact about undercurrents. They can be dragging you along in a given direction and then very suddenly and sometimes for no obvious reason, they change course. Learning that our European neighbours share many of the same concerns I do, was almost enough to sway me. I've always liked the notion of the eu, I just have major problems with its implementation. It seems so do ordinary people right across the union. They will want to push their respective leaders for change. Many here want change. But controlled, sensible change. If we pull out, there will be change alright, but not necessarily the kind of change wanted by the ordinary Joe or Juan or Giovani in the street/strasse /calle. I was finally swayed when I heard bob geldoff and nige Farage having a squabble on the Thames. Bob,who incidentally irritates me greatly, had a go at nige, pointing out that British fishermen make more than any other eu nation. I don't know if that's true or not, but nige verbally abused him, pretended he was only interested in the wishes of the ordinary brit, but then, laid claim to all the sea in the eu. Now I'm patriotic, but even if can see that you can't claim every fish in all the eu waters.
I think it's more about Fish than it is Campaigners squabbling and I certainly wouldn't let the likes of either Geldoff and Farage's behaviour affect my political thinking or decisions There was a program recently about the UK Fishing fleet which highlighted the fact that the UK fleet has lost over 650 boats over the last 15 years and now the strength lies at 363 Scottish, 224 English/Welsh, and 113 Northern Irish. It seemed to point to the fact that the vast majority of UK Fisherfolk will be voting to get out of the EU.
I got 64% leave. But as much fun as the quiz was, it highlights all that is wrong with the whole debate. All the questions were about headline issues. None of the questions asked about, say, the deal with turkey, ttip, trust (or lack of) the government, local issues.
Another piece in the puzzle was a live broadcast from Middlesbrough last night on telly. The reporter actually opened the piece by saying how it stinks. Then we got to see all the negative things of our area. Almost everyone they spoke to said they wanted out. I found it sad that they'd blame the eu, when if anything, the eu has improved their chances of a decent life. No UK government in my lifetime has credited our area with any importance or relevance. Investment has been almost nonexistent. Except through the eu. The whole TV broadcast appeared to very carefully planned as an anti eu thing, and it will have worked on a lot of people who will feel neglected and abandoned. But those people have been abandoned by successive UK governments, not the eu.
Because nobody knows. It can only be guess work. Gut instinct hopefully informed by lots of different input from lots of different sources is the only hope I reckon.
