Some more interesting factoids: - Starstreak has a range of 7km - compared to 2.5km for the Stinger; - Starstreak is good at knocking out low altitude high speed aircraft (which is how Putin is now flying around to avoid the existing Ukrainian air defence systems); - Starstreak is very, very fast - Mach 3.5 plus - a pilot has no time at all to try and avoid a missile. Perhaps this is why the Russians have recently agreed in 'peace talks' to ease back their assault of Kyiv, or perhaps they are running out of cruise missiles? Who knows - I don't believe anything that Russia say - they are proven liars.
I think Russia just misjudged the response to their invading. Progress basically stopped so they're withdrawing to the Donbas area to try and secure that. It's better supplied and has more support. They do this with a 'nothing to see here! All part of the plan' and try to bluster it out. If they don't then there is a seemingly real risk of all the Russian hardware just sitting in mud as fuel runs dry. User accounts might suggest star streak is not the be all and end all. Good on paper though
Clanless "Putin - you're in trouble - you've bitten off more than you can chew." Only trouble Clanless is Putin has Nuclear and he is mad enough to use it therefore we dare not do anything to be honest
I definitely think Putin is looking for a way out, one that allows him to keep face. The Russian army just appears to be pretty useless, but I'm not sure if that is down to Putin pushing his generals further and faster than they want to go, or is it down to really outdated equipment that has been badly maintained. Or is it down to a conscripted army that has no real professionalism. Or it could be all three, I bet there are some big questions being asked in the Kremlin.
You thought it was bad here in the UK - just look at how the Russian economy is being bashed: Annual inflation in Russia accelerated to 15.66% as of March 25, its highest since September 2015 and up from 14.53% a week earlier, the economy ministry said on Wednesday, as the battered rouble sent prices soaring amid unprecedented Western sanctions. Sanctions are starting to work - there need to be more of them - they need to be kept for the long term. I see that Joe is putting another million barrels of oil per day onto the supermarket shelves - this should be useful in bringing prices down. Keep the pressure on Putin.
Sounds like Dr Strangelove was doing the commentary. The backpack missile systems they have these days are incredible. I would not feel safe in a tank or helicopter when the infantry have a few dozen of these.
Noticing a few YouTube videos posing the question is the tank obsolete? Must admit they have always seemed like a death trap to me.
They were saying the other day that the Russians have tried to force their way through using tanks, without infantry and it doesn't work. I don't know much about military strategy but it appears you need all your forces acting in conjunction with each other, no one type of weaponry is going to do the job on it's own. It's a bit like sailing an aircraft carrier into a war zone without all the small ships to protect it, suicide.
The Russians would most probably have upped the aggression with chemical weapons by now, all but for the world watching. Putin knows if he gives that order, Nato will never lift the sanctions and most likely not rest till he's despatched.
I can't get my head around this - Russia is crying about an alleged attack on an oil depot. Did they assume war only happens in one place, that Ukraine isn't permitted to retaliate?! Just for kicks I think Ukraine should attack Moscow, they'd make a good fist of it.
Now that would be a funny turn of the tables - Ukraine takes over Russia and gets shot of Putin/Communist regime...
I know I'm looking at this from the Russian angle but Russia has said they want the countries that are using Russian gas to pay for it with Roubles and those countries have denounced it as blackmail. It's almost like they think sanctions only happen one way
A desperate attempt to increase the value of the Ruble. I heard that Europe have their own gas reserves - which they are filling up now and should see us (them) through to next year. By the time gas reserves are low - Europe will have built more LNG terminals - to store US gas. Joe already acting on oil. By this time next year - the Russian economy will be back in the stone age - Putin can keep his oil and gas. Boris needs to get his act together to take more energy from the North Sea fields.
