I doubt it's that good if recent news is anything to go by. Just before Christmas they went through a phase of shooting down their own planes in friendly fire mishaps. In one incident, the news suggested that a fighter jet took off and didn't correctly identify itself, so Russia's own anti aircraft systems shot it down.
Interesting quote from Ben: "We now estimate 97% of the whole Russian army is in Ukraine and to put that in perspective that means that those tens of thousands of miles of border Russians have with obviously China, with Norway, with Finland, imagine all those people are stuck now in Ukraine suffering very high levels of casualties." Putin looking weaker and weaker - with the 35% deficit in cash for January - it's not looking too good for him. The UK economy alone is 3 times the size of the Russian economy. I don't think that he understands the situation.
Today - a man that looks like Putin is addressing a carefully selected and orchestrated crowd in a Moscow stadium: This man (whoever he is) blames the decadent West for starting the war (special military operation) in Ukraine. I wonder if Shamima would like Russian citizenship?
So old man Biden is over in Poland not in OHIO where he should be. and USA gave Ukraine 113 Billion dollars already---so wrong. In pics | Who provided the most aid to Ukraine?
Some people send an e-mail to their MP to express their views - others take a more 'hands on' approach : Four arrests after campaigners paint Ukrainian flag outside Russian embassy. The Led By Donkeys group claimed responsibility for the 500 square metre blue and yellow flag painted on Bayswater Road in London.
That kind of thing achieves bugger all and ends up costing the tax payer money. Go do it in Red Square. Arseholes.
I could understand protests in the UK if the UK was not already supporting Ukraine. If our government was turning a blind eye, but when we're already supporting them as far as we can and dare, and when there is still widespread support for Ukraine among the British public, it just seems a bit pointless. The staff in the Russian embassy are highly unlikely to visit Putin directly and say 'Vladimir, I'm afraid we got it wrong, apparently the British people don't like what you're doing', to which Putin, looking shocked and embarrassed, replies, 'my goodness, I didn't realise, we must immediately call off our attack and apologise profusely'.
Cost aside, I find it mildly amusing as it's clearly intended just to antagonise the Russians. I doubt the intent was to alter russian policy
I dont know about antagonising the Russians, its working on me. Got nothing against protests that are likely to prove a point but this kind of thing is just stupid.
This sad day is very visible in Finland, both in media and in public events such as candlelight ceremonies. The parliament was dressed in black and started their sitting with a silence. The war is very, very close to our hearts and reality with many Ukrainian refugees settling into the society after escaping to Finland where many Ukrainians already had settled to live and work before the war. There are some good articles in Finnish media, if you right click in your browser it's possible to select "translate to English". https://www.is.fi/sivu/vuosi-sotaa/ https://www.is.fi/ulkomaat/art-2000009320038.html
I assume this is a true video, you never know these days, but it looks like things are on the move. U.S. Army, NATO. A huge number of M1A2 Abrams tanks arrived in Eastern Europe. - YouTube
I watched another video that said that 20 F22 had been sent to Poland, some of the filming was obviously not taken recently so I haven't put it up on here. But there could be some truth in it, they would not be delivered to Ukraine, but would be used to toughen up the borders of NATO.
