The saying is different over here Lori, its more like "I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole".
Long pole used to push barges along canals.
Just a bit of useless info.

I have heard the expression 10 ft pole used here, but it is usually a barge pole.

I find it an awful lot weirder that bodies are injected with chemicals, slavered in make up and their hair styled (and probably a nail job too, in UK ) and laid on silk cushions in a fancy box, only to be shoved in a hole in the ground or burned. As for the hypocrisy in France (a secular Republic) where the excuse given for not allowing alternatives is 'Oh but we can't change things, it would upset peoples' beliefs' Bof and tosh! Very very few French under the age of 80 believe in any religion other than eating and taking holidays :heehee:

@noisette47 I wonder if the hairdresser only gets paid for part of the job since they don't have to do the back?

I'm hoping for a gold sarcophagus and a load of old bits and pieces inside this bloody great big stone pyramid.
But probably end up down the local spot with about 2 million others.

Yes but do you really want your brains and other wobbly bits hooked out through your nostrils, your cavities stuffed with straw and 30 kms of bandaging? Mummy's boy...:roflol:

You always have to be so negative.
Perhaps I'll just go for the make up and the hair do.

I went through an absolute horrible day trying to find an appropriate dress for an elderly lady's death attire. As I worked my way up to more and more expensive places, I got shorter and more succinct with my discriptive of what I was looking for.

The last shop, I simply said, "I'm looking for a very pretty but stately dress for a dead old lady".

I wanted a certain size, and they didn't have one quite big enough and I told them no matter, it could just be left slit open down the back. The looks I got then!

:ideaIPB: Sorry, homeless cats, I think I have a new idea! My Dear Daughter, apologies for you too, now I have a plan even for the gold plated fiddly dessert spoons.

Both my Daughter and I have checked the Newcastle Uni schemes to donate our bodies for research, we'll still have to make a personal visit to fill the forms in. It's a big step from hypothetically agreeing, to actually physically going in to arrange to do it. (Apparently the receiving staff is trained not to use phrases such as "see you later" )

Donating the body makes so much sense, even just a forearm will help the students to see how the fiddly bits actually look like and ageing parts will show the effects of age.

Donate Your Body - School of Medicine - Newcastle University.

There's a lot of religion and traditions in my family and grave burials have always been the thing to do. The deceased family member is taken from the living family to be laid at rest amongst the family who have already passed on, next to their parents or siblings. To their final home. I think that's very beautiful.

I am currently trying to lose weight to get into my good suit for an upcoming wedding. My wife said I should have thought about it sooner but I thought I would only need it for my funeral and they would just cut it up the back to fit!

Body donor cards have been around for a good number of years in Britain and optional whether to carry one. That changed not too long ago in Scotland. Our bodies will automatically be used for donation unless we opt out.

It's the same in France, @Sheal, only it's organ donation. The rest is given back afterwards, though, so they don't deprive the funeral businesses  The standard contract for donating your entire body for research is full of conditions and get-outs (and costs). I suspect that the teaching hospitals will go from being inundated to having a shortage over the coming years.
