At least ours are for the right products, some people seem to hand over the entire content of their Tesco mailings and when they're refused start getting all their shopping out the bags only to be told they've put loads of wrong items in their shop.

There's also the types who buy 30 pieces of reduced cheese, all of which have the barcoded reduction labels which the idiotic staff have stuck on wrapped around corners so they can't be read and every single one has to have all the long numbers individually input manually. Then the wily customers produce money off cheese vouchers, money off dairy products vouchers, money off Tesco Finest products vouchers (that very often scan OK against non-Finest products), plus points vouchers for cheese, dairy, etc., plus some more almost the same but slightly different because some are from CC mailings and others come from the Tesco magazines (there's sometimes more than one overlapping voucher in the same mag) and finally a £3 off £20 shop voucher and get £60's worth of cheese for less than £10.

I find "un-manned" (automated) *anything* a total nightmare :th scifD36:

And, worse ... some manned places where the people don't even seem to be "trained" anymore ... merely rehearse a pre-determined script so even *they* sound like they are automated - and heaven help you if you deviate from the expected responses!! :yikes:

An example: last year I went through a certain "drive-thru" experience for a sausage bap and a coffee. Simple

"May I have a sausage bap and a coffee, please"
          "Sausage and egg?"
          "No egg, thank you"
"So that's a sausage FaffMucking with no sausage?"
"Erm, no ... that's a sausage FaffMucking with no egg and white coffee, please!"
"Ok, so, that's an egg FaffMucking, no sausage and white coffee. Please drive to the next window"
          (Drives to next window)
"Actually, I asked for a sausage (NO EGG) FaffMucking and a white coffee, please - the person taking the order seems to think I would like a sausage FaffMucking with no sausage? "
"Oh, yes, the label has written on it ... 'Refer to Manager'. Please park over there and your order will be with your shortly. Have a nice day! " :)

I avoid them at all costs, I believe that they're costing jobs. I would prefer to see more people kept in employment.

Despite being 'impossible', a couple of weeks ago at Morrisons using the self scans, I opted to pay by cash for my less than £1 purchase, put a £1 coin on the conveyor belt, but then suddenly noticed there was a small hole in it! I had put a trolley token in to pay with, but whilst quickly sorting out the correct cash, the till credited me with £1 payment and gave me change!

Makes up for all the times their tills reject real money.

                Yes so did I.
I quite often go in morrisons on my way home from work, around 5 pm.

The auto checkouts have long queues, mostly people with baskets.
The manned checkout always have long queues.

It seems that the staff have allotted tea breaks just around the time that everyone is leaving off work.
There was ten un -manned checkouts, queues a mile long, to the extent it was almost impossible to walk along the front of the store.
Then the usual thing is the call, "all till trained staff to the checkouts".

You know, I've never yet seen another till open up at that time, I'm sure its done to appease irate shoppers.
They just dont and wont employ enough staff.
If they get rid of the auto ones things will just get worse.

For some folk shopping is the only social contact they have in a day. Most shop assistants in stores near us, seem happy to chat to customers as they serve them, so although I am busy and some days I could do without the wait, on the whole being in a queue and sharing a laugh and a natter with a lonely soul seems to outweigh the need to speed through a checkout.

I do my main shop around that time on a saturday.
Trouble is you spend all your time avoiding the shelf fillers.
Plus there is often no bread.

My store has the annoying habit of opening at 9.30 on sundays but you cant get out till 10.00, so by then you cant move for queues at the tills.
The whole set up is MAD, no wonder the supermarkets are losing money.

Er....that's me! Takes less than one minute to process - guess you might mean more than one voucher though?

Waiting in a check-out queue is one of my pet peeves so I have developed a way of coping.....before I get to the queue I ensure I have a copy of a magazine to look at. That way I don't mind so much...feel more relaxed. When my turn comes I calmly place the magazine to one side (e.g. where products are placed to tempt you). Works a treat! (Sometimes queues are so long I have even managed to scribble down a recipe!) [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

When i use to drive I absolutely loved the pay at the pump option. It was the best thing ever until the petrol station i used weekly called the police on me saying I hadnt paid when i had. Gave me loads of abuse when i phoned them to say I has and I had to go back pay them the amount they said i owed which wasnt the amount i had paid. To then go back several days later when the charge came up on my bank to get refunded the incorrect amount i had paid for no reason

The worst bit was it was boxing day. Proper nightmare

Never went to that petrol station again.

I make the effort to go and spend my money on overpriced goods so that these huge supermarket chains can pocket it and laugh at me. Why should I use a self service machine to do there job for them as well! Besides, these machines mean somebody loses a job!

Round this way, Morrisons are the worst supermarket for queues, in fact they're the worst supermarket for any form of customer service.
