    Excellent, it's working! Cheers Peter:thumb:

Freddy, Kristen might just be on holiday. People do go on holidays sometimes!

It would appear you are right Freddy.

I heard from Kristen last night and it seems he doesnt think he will be contributing to the site any further :(

From what he said (which i wont be repeating obviously) I can see it from his point of view very clearly and can understand why someone wouldnt want to continue adding to the forum.

Such a shame to loose someone with years of knowledge who was always more than happy to help anyone he could

I have spent many years on the internet in forums and chat rooms (back in the day) even owning/running chat rooms of my own, so I do understand that not everyone is always going to see eye to eye .... 'Text' is always a lot easier to misinterpret and I have often read things and wondered if someone actually meant that to come across so harsh.

I do hope Kristen reconsiders and decides to come back properly. I know he has given me some great advise in the short space of time I have been here as he has to many others.

That is a shame that Kristen has decided on this. I checked his profile here and it says similar.

I do have to say that I never understand people having a strop and deciding to cut the nose off to spite the face, because someone has disagreed with you or an online argument. I've seen it happen on other forums so many times and it always intrigues me. It's only a forum for goodness sake! Although it does show that no matter how much we embrace the online, social side of the internet, there is no substitute for face to face communication. We humans need to see emotions and expressions to argue and discuss properly and online "spoken" word can be very limiting.

I do hope Kristen reconsiders - his advice has always been very welcome.

Freddy, I'm not sure but I think it means that the ads go away for you if you donate. Not if other people donate . Can't be sure about it.

    I Pm'd a question about donating but haven't received a response :(

Hi shiney, thanks for the response. I think you're right. For some reason I thought the idea was that if enough people donate, then GC wouldn't need the adds at all, as a collective.
    Cheers...freddy.

Well said Sam. I do agree with you and Freddy, and can't for the life of me understand why he is being personally attacked . He has always gone out of his way to be helpful to folk on here. Just look at the massive number of 'Thanks' he has been given, no-one else on here comes anywhere near by that statistic alone, so he is a great loss to GC.

If someone wants to PM the details or indeed report the post/posts perhaps we can help ?:)

I don't see any attacks, just a disagreement with him saying that he would be more inclined to help or advise someone who donated here, than someone who hasn't.

And this is the problem with paysites, they do end up being two tier membership systems. Kristen of course has that right to help whoever he wants too and no one can say or make him do any different so if he wanted to reply to paying members only then thats his choice. Now he appears to have gone ( I hope he's just having a holiday) which is a huge shame for GC, its present and/or future members..and all because of discussion about money on a forum based on a sedentary hobby such as gardening!

At the start of this month I posted a line from the front page because I was convinced this ads issue would send people away from this site, unfortunately it appears as though I was correct, the first line below from 1st October, the second ten mins ago.

Thats a 20 member drop in three weeks.

I'm sorry you feel you had to leave us kristen, hopefully its just a mini holiday your having and you'll be back here soon enough. If not, I thank you for the help you have given me whilst I have been here.

    Steve...:)

I am not sure these assumptions and statistics would hold up under scrutiny lol.

The fact remains GC is still free, quite simply donate if you want to, don't if you don't want to.:cnfs:

The reward for donation or support if you like, is that the donation is offset against any advert click though fees. Adverts are an important and convenient way of sustaining an ever growing and ever costly internet resource. Simples.

A non issue if ever I saw one, and certainly not one to fall out with eachother over.:)

I find disagreements over unimportant issues, such as this one, a bit upsetting :(

It would be nice if we could just let this matter drop and get on with talking about our gardens, gardening, hobbies etc :flag:

Let's leave having-a-go to be aimed at people outside of the forum - like the government or local authority :hehe: :rotfl:

    Pax vobiscum :luv: :thmb: :old:

I'm certainly not falling out, nor would I. But I do notice that admin like to laugh at falling statistics without scrutiny first..such is the way of things. Certainly ad click through and donations help pay for things that I have already and on many occasions offered to save everyone from before this. This site would run for less than a tenner a month so its all subjective really...maybe even a non issue. But the fact does remain and scrutinise all that you wish that kristen is no longer here as a result of all this...food for thought maybe?

I'll withdraw from this again and say no more. Back into the garden and pot on some plants.

    Steve...:)

Hi Steve, in no way directed at you, but Kristen is possibly no longer posting, not due to the issue of donations, but due to the conduct of another member. It doesn't matter what the issue is, respecting others opinions is paramount. It's quite clear in the forum rules that we should criticise ideas, not people. Site feedback is welcome be it good or bad, personal feedback is not.:)

everything else...I am with you Steve, back to gardening....:gnthb:
