Whether he's good or not, he can't be any worse than McCain and his very stupid, very silly and very, very scary running mate.

I am a little ambivalent about him being voted in because he is black. He certainly got votes because of it. I looked at the map of states and who voted for who. I see the Southern States are all firmly Republican. No surprise there then.

    Whatever happens, it'll be interesting!

I'd vote for him ... he played President Tom Beck in Deep Impact ..... what a good surname that is! :)

I adore Morgan Freeman .... especially in Shawshank Redemption ....

I also liked Dennis Haysbert as the President in 24 .... an ace character. :thumb:

No Palin was the scary one. McCain was just old and frankly past it (as far as leading a country as demanding as the USA goes).

About Obama being brave - they said he had a 3" thick bullet-proof
glass screen in front of him when he gave his victory speech!

I think he will need some very good bodyguards where ever he goes.

Yeah i read about that today jjordie, as David said, if ever a president said "Assasinate me" its Obama. I think he will need to be in a 3" thick bulletproof box for as long as he's President..

    Naughty, naughty lol.

Obama is without doubt the best man for the job and it does hail a new begining for not only America but the rest of the world too. I would like to think that racist hate will soon become a thing of the past but sadly I know that there will still be some extremists who are intent to reap havoc on us all.Hel.xxx.

Speaking of voting, it is well known that a lot of people of color who never was registered to vote before, made sure to register to vote this time and for Obama, "just because" he was black. Those folks never looked further than that, and all they heard was "change, change, change". He is a good speaker I give him that. But he reminds me of people I interview for positions who can tell a great story but can't put anything into action because they really don't have the experience.
Frankly I did not like any of the choices, I can't believe across all of America, these were the people that were found for this great position.

And to Lady of L., It must have been hard to see those things you saw. But I do want to share with you and everyone else an experience I just had only 6 months ago. One of our clients (who happened to be of color) she was in my group home for 10 years. She had a great life, got out a lot, went on vacations, went to work, had a beautiful bedroom, dressed great, whatever she wanted/needed she was supplied with. She had three sisters and a brother who lived 20 mins. away, never, never visited her. Our client, Ruby, she got sick, she had to go to the hospital, she was really bad. I called her family to tell them, so they could know that if you want to see her ever, this is the time. They said, oh we don't have a way to drive down there, so I said, ok, I 'll come and get you and take you to visit her, which I did 3 times. Ruby then passes away on a Saturday at 10AM, I call one of the sisters to tell her, she says the hospital had already called so ok. Then at 12 noon, I get another call from a sister, the question is "What are you going to do with her things", I said, oh nothing for a long time, they will just stay in her room, when every you folks feel comfortable to come down and get some mementos of hers your free to do that. Sister then says, can I have the address, (remember they never visited her), I give her the address. At 3PM, I get a call from the supervisor of that house telling me, that 4 unfamiliar people showed up at the group home demanding to look in Ruby's room to take her things. (Gosh they got a car somehow?). I said to the Supervisor, just let them take what ever. They even wanted her hospital bed, the supervisor had to explain to them that it goes back to the insurance company. As they went through closet, I was told, they said "Oh these are not stylish clothes, oh look at these old lady shoes, all this is for the good will, nothing we want" (Ruby was 85 when she passed). Also, keep in mind there are other housemates who live in this group home that should be respected, it is their home.

And the story gets worse---At the funeral. --Most of my office went, and the staff and Ruby's house mates from the group home went. The housemates of Ruby's sat in the front row, they had been close to Ruby for all these years, so as the staff. Then comes the parade of people into this funeral, I mean a parade, 4 preachers, her family and a huge bunch of others, about 50 people (I am not kidding). Then they tell the housemates that they have to move from the front row to the rear of the room because they are not family, and they are sitting in the family row. My boss was so upset, tears ran down her cheek, I got angry, Those housemates were Ruby's family, no real family ever visited her. And no preachers even.
So as all these "spiritual" people were parading in, I said to my boss, and not quite, "OH my look at all these people here, and no one ever visited Ruby". Then came the sermon, and it was all about the "poor" family loss. No discussion about Ruby, or her staff that cared for her all those years, or her sadden roommates. All the preachers took their turns and there even was a singing group, and the group sang a song about their mother. (Ruby was not a mother??). Some of our staff sitting there are from Africa, they were so upset also.

Oh, yeah, prior to the funeral the family wanted a big sit down dinner after the funeral, my boss told them, there were not money available for such an affair and that we will have a small luncheon back at the house for staff, roommates and they were welcome. So I had sandwiches, salads, beverages, and desserts. No family showed up. Oh another thing, the family also threatened that they were going to get a lawyer and come back because we are hiding money from them. "I just thought, go ahead"

I came away from this experience with the worst taste in my mouth. To act this way, sorry does not bow well in my mind for people of color. I thought things after this for many weeks that normally do not enter my mind. What an example.

I Agree with you, Red :thumb: I think you had an abysmal choice to make :(.

McCain didn't seem to be offering anything that was much different from the current incumbent.
Obama is very inexperienced with a lot of dubious connections but is a pretty good orator - and looks more presentable.

Although the number of seats majority Obama got was very high the difference in the Popular Vote was only 6%. Electoral systems are very puzzling  :)
