yes, that was the idea I had based on a pottager

what i did last year was, I only used 12 of the 16 beds, 2 were left fallow, ie dug over and left as is for a year, the other 2 I grew annual lupins, and when they had died down, having had the benefit of the flowers, rotavated them into the soil.
