Thanks! I have them on paper in my airing cupboard so im sure theyll germinate. ive been trying germinating things then putting them straight into soil outside but I can put some under my lights.
I have "Giant Italian" parsley. I sowed it extremely dense last year: Should I sow quite thin? The packet had 1,000 seeds in for 2£ so I figured you were supposed to sow many...

 

My bad, 3500 seeds for £1 according to the receipt. thats just silly. How many seeds do these things make?!

 

How much parsley can you eat!!
You could let some flower and seed, they are quite prolific. Its always good for pollinaters to have diversity. It depends upon how much room you can spare. It could get out of hand....

 

To be fair, a lot. My favourite side dish is Tabbouleh and that uses an awful lot.

 

I sow maybe three or four seeds per module and thin to 2 plants per module for both coriander and parsley. Parsley takes quite a while to germinate as mentioned and it is slow to get going, so if you raise them in modules trays I'd give it its own tray.


I can also recommend dill for this time of year to sow as a herb, lovely in a salad imo. They all get planted out at maybe 25cm apart as small plants around end of march if weather allows. Also in pots so I have some at home in case I forget to pick some up from the allotment. I still have some flat leaf going in the greenhouse from I think was an April sowing, I plant the greenhouse herbs there under my bench so they are pretty shaded throughout.

I'll be sowing many vegetables this weekend, all my onions, some early cabbage, early broccoli,lettuce and other salads.

I've bought a few peas, you can get them loose in a garden centre near here.
Klevedon - grow 18 inches and Sweet Sarah 24 inches.
I'm going to grow them in a raised bed.

My autumn sown Onions are starting to put on some growth now. I'm wondering if I should put a cloche over them ...

 

Delicious first cutting of pea shoots went into a stir fry tonight. I'll get another cutting from this batch and meanwhile, another portion of peas is soaking.

 

I bought some shalotts, I will plant them in my raised bed.

 

Preparation day today three raised beds weeded(again) manure added, two have fleece over them to warm the soil up a bit for direct sowing at the end of the month, all three covered with chicken wire to keep the cats out. Nothing sowed outside yet as we are still getting frosts and there's still some snow about.

 

Got a tray of mange tout and sugar snaps sown, 60 in total so will use the excess for pea shoots for salads. My goji berries have germinated, quite why I was wanting to grow a bush or two I don't know. Will probably pot them up and forget about them

 

My greenhouse staging is getting full, also the peas have now germinated so I'll move them there soon. Plant to start planting next week I think, weather depending of course.

Also some homemade seed of agretti has germinated. I sowed 1000 seeds of it last year and managed a single plant from that, so I am quite pleased with getting a few plants this year.

 

My broad beans (Claudia ‘Aquadulce’) sown direct into the veg patch here in central Norfolk UK last October are flowering!

 

Remember to give them a 'waft' when passing ,its likely the bumble bees will be late this year....

 

Believe it or not @infradig the bumbles have been busy around here (central Norfolk) for a few weeks now … I can see them on the Clem. Freckles and Vib. Bod. ‘Charles Lamont’ from here on the sofa where I sit to knit some afternoons … and yesterday they were busy (or even buzzy) sticking their heads into the pulmonarias and hellebores … and I’ve also seen some honeybees on the rosemary which is covered in flowers. The broad beans are in front of my espaliered Concorde pear which is covered in fat blossom buds so hopefully the bees will be drawn in that direction too … everything seems early this year …
