Glad to hear all went well even though she's feeling a bit miserable 'M'. I know with bigger dogs you can by a stand to fit the food/drink bowls in which makes it easier for them with a collar on, but I don't know if that will work with a small dog. :) This is the sort of thing I'm thinking of.

I've seen those, Sheal, and, thank you for the recommendation :dbgrtmb:

She's a Pom (Pomeranian) and they are reknown for being fussy so n so's at the very best of times - let alone when they are wearing a Buster Collar :rolleyespink:

I'm going to have to revert back to: "Where there is a will, there is a way".

I am loathe to put her into the "Special Needs" category of "spoiling" (if you get my drift?) and I really want her to work this out with as little (human) intervention as possible. I think the main issue is one of guilt, if I'm honest

In the very first instance: I haven't, yet, "bonded" with her.
In the second instance: These ops are not really *natural* to animals and must take its toll?
In the third: despite not bonding with her, I cannot bear the thought that I am not being a good carer/potentially neglecting/not doing it right for her.

Still, tomorrow is another day and I sure she will be back to her more spirited self and earning her title as her "Royal Yappiness":rolleyespink:

In the meantime, it has been a long, long day in the world of "M" and I really should be in bed by now :heehee:

ah spoil the girl M, spoil her rotten :pathd: if ever there was a time to indulge or molly coddle her its now :imphrt:

oh yes, im well aware of the fussy dog problem, we have one of those, Snoop would have you pull your hair out with his daft carry on:gaah: M we have two little fellas Snoop's a Bichon Frise & Freddy our Chihuahua, & before you ask yeah they are spoiled  & if im really honest a bit babied even :oopss: more so now than ever since our other Bichon Polo passed away last year :cry3:but speaking of babies have you considered...eh...how do i say this without sounding like a lunatic  ...i've never done this myself as never had need to & i don't agree with dressing dogs up in clothes for our amusement unless its like a coat or something practical just jazzed up to look...whatever im rambling! what im trying to say is i've heard of people putting babygrows/sleep suits or similar on small dogs after being spayed, it makes sense to me, they'd be unable to get at the stitches whilst still having complete freedom of movement...& no awkward collar! phew! i think i managed that without sounding like a complete nutter :phew:

oh & just so's you know small dogs are supposed to be on laps thats where they belong the only reason big dogs ain't is cos you loose the feeling in your legs :rofllol:here's Freddy sound asleep on me, he's sleepy & full cos i just had a late night snack of homemade oatmeal bread, & Fred quite likes my bread so i shared it with him....i won't mention the fact i had to chew it up & make to all mushy for him first cos that'd sound way too spoiled & babyafied! oh wait..... damn!

Awww hows the patient today Mum:doggieshmooze:.....the buster collars don't agree with my dogs..when they've had ops they sent them scatty....bearing in mind they were huge things and everything in the house went flying when they wore them:rolleyespink: .....i took them off them and stressed myself out watching them like a hawk for a week or so:doh:.....i hope Ayla feeling better today and probably still a bit 'wowwy' but if she's anything like my dogs she'll milk it for all it's worth:biggrin:

Hi Mum, hows the patient, reading through previous posts with suggestions I would go with the cover/coat, as an immediate measure, as I am sure you do not have one to hand, I ordered Maddie a mac at the weekend as weather changing, still not here, do you have any old jumpers you could cut the sleeve off, and slip it over her body, just to cover the stitches and give her more freedom of movement, something thin would be ideal at the moment.

                Breaking News:

She has eaten; she has drunk :hapfeet: (and now she has gone back to sleep again :doggieshmooze: ) and she managed it with her ruff  That's a real weight off my mind :phew:

Next step: toilet! But ... that can wait ... until she wakes up :heehee:

Great idea about the sleeve! Very creative :dbgrtmb:

Sheal, thank you for the recommendation :dbgrtmb: (and to HB too :ccheers: )

But most of all, thank you all for the support and advice: very much appreciated xMx

Glad to hear that particular hurdle is over with, I hope you are feeling less guilty now 'M'. :) It's difficult making these horrible decisions. I had the decision to have my belated West Highland spayed, taken out of my hands by my vet. She developed a genetic disease as a pup and we couldn't risk it being passed on. I'm sure they're more worry than our own offspring at times.

He's amazing, Loli: he instinctively understands she's not herself (and not simply because she's a cone-head) and has been extraordinarily gentle with her.

I'm only awake now because he was making a noise, very unusual for him. I came down and he made all the signs of wanting to go out - again very unusual for him - let him out, put Ayla on her lead so she could have a trip out too: Bingo! It was her needing to go out; not him :doggieshmooze: Amazing! They've both settled down again now :)

hang about! i thought our Freddy was the only one to do that! when our dearly departed Polo started getting on in years & the ol' water works were playing up, Freddy being ever such a clever boy would tell us that Polo needed to go RIGHT NOW! by rushing too & fro between us, Polo & the back door barking :hapfeet: he was a great help to Polo who he had an extraordinarily close bond with & saved the poor old boy many an accident :imphrt:

sometimes, just sometimes im floored by the sheer amazing intelligence they're capable of...& then they go & do one of the many daft things they do oh so well & im back to thinking i must have imagined it & they must surely infact be shockingly dim-witted:rofllol:

HB your Freddy is a very handsome little fella and clever with it too! He must have been a great comfort for Polo (only a year ago? Aww, bless ya: still early days :grphg: )

Ayla is still wearing the collar. I was raiding the rag box for a suitable sleeve yesterday and explaining to youngest the fab advice given on here. After only a little thought, he pointed out that, having seen how she has ripped her fabric toys open, determined enough she would rip open any fabric she was wearing. As she has managed to eat and drink wearing it, the initial problem has resolved itself.

She's back to the vets tomorrow for her first check and then back again 7 days later. Hope they give her treat for being a good patient and a sticker extolling that fact :heehee:

your right of course, there's no point in changing it now she's used to it & has figured out how to eat & drink around it....im not sure whether wearing another layer of clothing in this heat would be better or worse anyway! the heat is just beyond words here at the moment...although 'atrocious' would come pretty close:phew:

yep, just a little over a year since he passed away, a months after his 15th birthday, bless him :imphrt:it doesn't feel like it though, it still feels like he's here (if you know what i mean...i still expect to see him come rushing in from the garden with the other two & we often call his name :oopss: the two boys took his passing remarkably well...i can only surmise that they knew it was his time.

Freddy was an absolute god send, he really was a huge help to Polo, invaluable even! they had always been very close but when Polo started getting 'frail' Freddy became his shadow, followed him everywhere, guarded/protected him from Snoop's boisterous attempts to get Polo to play, he insisted on sleeping snuggled up beside him at night & would cry if separated...it was all very touching, there was real love there between those two:imphrt:
