roders, could I make a suggestion, mainly because I don't like gold frames in general, but I think a simple darkish wood frame would be better, or perhaps a very wide and almost black frame would make it more like looking out of a window and the picture would look so much lighter.

I have the programme but just havn't got into it yet, so leave that to the computer art experts! [IMG]

    Just my 2 cents!

LOL - I like it and regarding it looking too dark on screen - one thing we should all do is calibrate our computer monitors. Then we might all see the same colours in the photos and paintings we share on GC

File > Color Management > Monitor Calibration and then let the Monitor Calibration Wizard to its stuff

Following DAG's comments, I have lightened your sand and put the painting into a dark frame . I could put it into a wider black frame if you prefer. The dark surround does make everything look brighter.

The one vital feature in any landscape is that the sky must always be lighter than everything else. Simply because all light comes from the sky and even at night, the sky is brighter than the land or sea. So I would suggest you lighten up the sky a bit [IMG]

Also - don't forget aerial perspective - the sky at the top of the picture should be a stronger colour than at the horizon. Ditto the sea - the further away sea and sky are - the hazier they become - even in sunny Portugal :D

    Thank you, Hornbeam.

I can't find File - Color Management - Monitor Calibration ... I can't even find the right arrow as I have a Portuguese keyboard set to English as I touch type! I'll ask t'other half later.

The sand looks very nice lightened up and is more how it looks in my picture. I must point out we do have very intensely blue skies here often ... it is often commented on by visitors.

The black frame looks good ... I thought that or a rustic / driftwood type. This is of interest to me because I need to contact my friend who has asked me to put the paintings for sale in his gallery and see if I need to frame them first. All are on stretched canvas.

    Again, many thanks.

I love your painting but i am not an expert :D Why dont you buy a book on frame making from amazon then your o/h could make you some frames as i dont know how much they are in portugal but here they are expensive!! If my o/h was clever with his hands making things then i would buy him that frame making book as a present for his birthday ..

    Morning, wildflower, and thank you.

T'other half is very good with that sort of thing. He built our deck. Pretty good for a computer chap, me'thinks, who didn't have a clue about woodwork. He's currently (not at this precise moment but at this period in time) making window frames, both fixed and sliding, for the Baffa (outdoor living room). In saying this, he started last Spring to be finished ready for the winter and he's just passed halfway finished!

All our DIY stores here make frames for you so will have to go check out the prices, but I think cheap. You choose your wood (colour, style) which is sold per metre and they cut it for nothing, then you just assemble it (or they may do). I know how expensive they are there!!!!

I shall be posting my current one this evening.

Here is a change of theme and colours for me. Although I am trying to be a bit more subtle with my colours now, this has yet again come out darker than paintng.

This is my first attempt at the Australian Bush ...

This is half the size of most of the paintings I do, except for the windmill which was slightly smaller than this.

Thank you Hornbeam, DAG and wildflower for the lovely compliments.

I'm actually quite chuffed myself having taken half a lifetime to do the previous and two days being ill doing this one. Do you think there's a message here, wildflower?

DAG, I have to admit I always paint from pictures. The only one I haven't done so was the bugbear of the seascape. I "saw" that scene in my mind in 1977 when I started to paint it ... I first saw a cove like that in Portugal in 1983 ... I just couldn't connect the two.

Thanks, rosa, I am pleased with it.

Wildflower, meant to say before but on seeing your signature again ... they actually sell seed packs of dandelions here, makes me laugh every time I see them!
