As Davids not around at the minute.

Yes "round up" is glyphosate, but I think being a trade name it tends to work out more expensive.

I personally wouldn't use SBK (its not the same stuff)on bindweed unless it was to clear large mats of the stuff, I think even then I'd go for glyphosate.

The garden is pretty riddled with it - it was a large mat for about 2 years until I cleared it (just before xmas).

Just turning the soil over with a handfork I've (unsurprisingly) found the soil riddled with roots. I've dug out all I could but obviously a lot snapped off, and some were deeper than my fork would take me.

I suppose I've got a wee while till it starts sprouting again too see how much of the problem I've still got on my hands.

Hmm. You're very brave trying to dig it out but I don't think that will work, especially over a large area. Might be better to allow the leaves to come through and then poison it. I only suggest S.B.K. because I've found that to be the most effective. You can use it through a watering-can rather than a spray if you're worried about the toxicity of it. Pro-Gard might have some useful ideas about this [IMG]

The rest of the garden is bare and there are no pets locally, so not worried about the toxicity in that respect. Just wanna be sure I get rid of it, and as quick as poss. [IMG]

Ok, it's now Spring and with last week full of rain the first bindweed strands are starting to grow up through the soil and over from next door's fence - a foot long already!

There's leaves on them, but no flowers. Am I OK to start curling the strands up and putting into pots of RoundUp (so they hopefully suck the poison back down to the roots)?? Should I wait till they're a bit longer?

I'm with Oktarine on this. In fact I recommended the technique on another thread a few weeks ago. I don't cut the bind weed. Instead I get as much as possible, and dip the whole lot in a pot of prepared Roundup (glyphosate) for an hour or two, and then move on to the next bit. It's slow work but you can use one pot of weedkiller to treat a lot of bindweed, and you can kill it off this way when it's among plants you want to keep (don't knock the pot over). It sometimes comes back a couple of months later, ususally from a slight different position, and you might get some the next year, but eventually it works.

Lotty, just spray the bindweed with Glyphosate, don`t mess about soaking it for an hour or two. there really is no need.:thumb:
