There I was just pottering and I noticed what appeared to be the start of some greenfly on my years old pot of mint.
So, I picked it up and placed it on top of the wheelie bin for a closer look.
Horror of horrors.. when I picked it up to place it back I spotted these beasties on top of the wheelie bin!

The dreaded vine weevil which depatched a whole load of my strawberries last year.
They were. I repeat were a bit sleepy so I was able to take a few pictures.
We have just had a torrent of rain and that area has been flooded. I wonder if any more are gasping for their last breath..
Here is a closeup for those of us who are not sure what a Vine weevil looks like, notice the brown markings and the ridged back, and also not to confuse these beasties with the more beneficial beetles we have in our gardens

Err!. I think Provado is a Systemic. Spray it on the leaves at night and after a little while, anything that munches the plant dies. Spiders only eat anything that's in their web and I've never seen a Ladybug at night.:) I know the theory of" Poisoning the prey, poisons the predator" but neither of these creatures are scavengers. Nobody likes "collateral damage". Just be careful how you use poisons:)
