By coincidence I was chatting to an ex-colleague tonight and he recalled going to trials at Filton on that Vulcan with the Concorde engine strapped underneath.

I think I'm right in saying that the one Concorde engine was the equivalent of all four Vulcan engines.

Well it must have made a din! He said the test equipment was nearly vibrated to bits at the side of the runway and the Rolls Royce engineers on the Vulcan wore lead jerkins for protection. Must have been a sight to witness Freddy

Indeed it was John. It made a right racket, which is a good thing in my book :) Probably the most most impressive thing I saw though was a pair of Lightnings. We were doing fire training in the fire station when there was this almighty whoosh overhead. We all jumped up to see what it was only to see this pair disappear over the hump in the runway. Next thing we saw was the pair of them tail standing straight up, side by side. They just kept going and going until out of sight. Never seen anything like it, amazing!

I saw the Lightning at the Woodford airshow , must have been in the 1970's. It flew down the runway at about 100feet, , then went into a 90° climb . The noise and the rate of climb were incredible.

After not seeing a Spitfire in years over where I live, this year I've seen so many flying over, not sure why.
Even saw a Mustang this morning.

I was at work John when a couple of formations came over, luckily we were sitting outside having our lunch.
Cant quite remember the numbers, but nice to see spits and hurricanes over Kent.
