As some may know I was planning to go to the RIAT display at Fairford last weekend, but it was cancelled both days due to waterlogging of the airfield.

So those vids are the best I'm likely to see of the Raptor.
I decieded against Farnborough this weekend due to the fact that I assume there will be thousands of dissappointed people from the Fairford display decending on Farnborough.

The crowds are bad enough at the best of times.:(

Not even seen the Typhoon yet, but as already said, Its probably outdated by now, our stuff usually is by the time we get it to work properly:D

It would be nice to see a Vulcan in the sky again as well, very noisy as dorsetmike says.

Yep it set off the most alarms in the car park when it took off again yesterday, everyone started clapping! It could make a lot more noise but they weren't using the afterburners, I'm not sure why perhaps they haven't sorted them out yet. A colleague went into the show yesterday and got much better pictures than me, with a Digital SLR:

and he took the Vickers Vimy as well:

Then today I went in and found Toby the Sniffer Dog on the UK Border Agency Stand:

Toby had discovered drugs in the hollowed out tubes & pots:

When I went around the exhibition halls I got a good shot of a jet engine, except that these girls got in the way:

JWK - your first photo of the Vulcan takes me back a few decades. I first saw one in about 1954 or 55 - it was white and flying a bit lower than the one in your photo. I can remember my father telling me that it was the latest bomber plane.

I read Vulcan 607 last year - a brilliant account of the Black BuckVulcan bombing raids on Stanley airfield during the Falkands conflict.

:thumb: Fantastic pic JWK..!! From you & your friend..!!! Great to see..!! :thumb::thumb: Mike, you must get a blast seeing the Vulcan still flying if you once worked on it..!!!:D:D Toby is a little cracker & obviously good at his job..!!!;):D

:( Oh dear Pete that is a shame you were one of the disappointed from Fairford... It was really dreadful there though... Vehicles up to their axles stuck in the mud... And that was way before it was due to start, Wednesday's constant rain just finished any chances of the show off... ...!!!!:( The 1st time it has been canceled..!

:thumb: Thanks so much for sharing the pics John...!!!!:D

Dave: seeing the vulcan again reminds me when our son was really small and we were rambling in Wales up the hills, we got to the top and had a picnic when suddenly a Vulcan came from nowhere and frightened the living daylights out of us all, it was really low! I always think of that now. It was the lastest thing once and so was that Vimy!

I also read Vulcan 607 recently and just couldn't put it down, what a fascinating account, I didn't realise at the time of the Falkland what a huge operation it was and how close it came to failure, you do have to admire those guys in the RAF.

walnut - yeah sorry about that, if anyone else is going to Farnborough Airshow this weekend then please go to Hall 4 stand D15 (TRAC Group) and lodge a complaint for me :thumb:

Marley: Toby was a real character I couldn't help take his picture and his handler was telling me Toby's life history - Toby will retire next year at 8 years old, and will need a good home, form a queue behind me please.

Pete: also sorry to hear about Fairford, that must have been short notice, because I thought they did open on Friday or maybe that was just the fly past for the Queen? You are probably right about the crowds at Farnborough (I'm not there today), a couple of friends are going with their families, I just hope it stays dry and the cloud levels clear otherwise they will have to switch to their low level displays which aren't so spectacular.

Same here pete, me and my family went down as we do every year, took us 5hrs on friday night. We were booked into a hotel for 2 nights, got a note on saturday at about 10pm saying it was cancelled, we were gutted. On saturday couldnt decide what to do, anyway we decided to stay and went and bought tickets for sunday & went out for a drive round the airfield, the place was buzzing. Then it got cancelled again, couldnt believe it. Must have cost us £500 for nothing, oh well at least we get the ticket money back, eventually. Gutted. this post makes it worse I was really excited about seeing the vulcan xh558, I remember seeing its last flight at what was RAF Finningley (now robin hood airport) as a kid.

JWK do you live near an air base? I would love that! Was really excited about the raptors too but no luck! Oh well, just have to wait for next year! We went to RAF Cosford, just off the m54, great museum and free to enter, unbelievable stuff, planes suspended from the ceiling, and yes i mean real ones!! Definately worth a visit, and there was a vulcan in there, makes my spine tingle for some reason that plane, seem to have some sort of emotional connection with it! :D

Andy - thats a real b****g about Fairford. I worked for many years at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey (the home of the Hawk & Harrier) which was great as all the aircraft were flight tested there; then it closed down about 8 years ago (its now used for the Top Gear filming and its kind of strange watching them doing their laps with my old office in the background). I haven't been back there since we moved out but they do an annual show there (Wings & Wheels) which is pretty good according to those that have been.

I work at Farnborough now but its not the same, all the day to day flights are small commercial stuff, but Airshow week makes up for it.

I grew up in East Yorks and we had a view from our house over towards RAF Leconfield, and as a kid used to watch the Vulcans practising their touch and goes; one after another for what seemed like hours.

I live in Guildford about 8 miles or so from Farnborough and right now can hear the air display rumbling in the distance; some of the less agile ones overfly us every now and then, the B1 Lancer does its turn just over us!

Anyone with real connections with such planes as the Vulcan must get a lot of memories brought back to them when they see them flying again.
I only have airshow memories, but yes the Vulcan at Farnborough when I was young, is still in my memory, along with the English Electric Lightning, in those days when planes were really breaking new ground.

Of the American planes I always liked the Starfighter and the Phantom.
Strange how the American Airshows seem to have dissappeared, I always liked the Mildenhall show and the one at Lakenheath, both within striking distance of me.

Cant say any plane has the sound of a spitfire though, its not loud, but that merlin engine is so distinctive.:thumb:

Auto-downloads? I have no idea what you mean - I linked to a .wmv file with a non-obscured URL.

    ¿que?

I do apologise for the duplicate post though - I meant to edit the first one to make the picture smaller - I'll see if I can get it removed....

Err - no, I didn't know, and I can't see a delete button. But it's gone now - thanks to whichever mod did that.

It's just a link to a file - it doesn't "take" you anywhere...
